league 1

looks very likely, and a rookie manager is very unlikely to stop it happening. Don't want to be gloomy but perhaps it's necessary to start a re-growth from the roots, from home grown talent, Coburn et al.
I think if we did drop we could easily implode completely - I don’t think we will, but it looks like it’s going to be a tough first season for Carrick

I remember people saying this kind of thing when we got relegated from the PL under Southgate.

Getting relegated is never a positive. We would be as likely to end up in league 2 as get promoted back to the championship.

Who are the et al?
I can think of a few but not many.

Sure someone will have been saying the same when karanka took over

Wouldnt be the first .. wont be the last Leeds, Forest, Wolves, Southampton, Leicester have all had spells in League One

I can't see us go down as if we are still here come janaury we will do alot of panic buying and Carrick won't still be manager we be back to someone like Warnock

Carrick is one game in and you’re already writing him off? You don’t need to drop down a division to grow from the roots. We’d just end up like Sunderland struggling for years!

Hopefully we can strengthen early in the transfer window.

Would that much change if we went down? We'd have generally worse oppo, and generally worse grounds to go to... but most of us would still follow the team and be happy when we won, and hacked off when we played sh**e and lost.
Financially we would be fcked more than we are now. Smaller crowds. Yes it would be a disaster

The bookies think there are 12 teams more likely to go down than us, so if you think it's "very likely" we'll be relegated, get £50 on it now at 9/1 and pay for next season's season ticket!

Aside from disagreeing that we are likely to go down, it's also a nonsense to ever see relegation as a good thing. It took a long time for Leeds and Sunderland to get back up and Ipswich are in their 4th consecutive season in League 1. You've also got Portsmouth, Charlton and Bolton who were once regulars in the Premier League with us but have been languishing in League 1 or 2 for quite a while. If we did go down, there's no guarantee we'd come back up any time soon or be stronger for the experience even if we did.

Would the smaller crowds really make that much difference in the scheme of things? Why would it be a 'disaster' for us, when it rarely is for all the other teams that go down every season?
We can’t make the financial side work as it is! We have always been good payers for players wages. We go down I would guess we would be in the top 3 of wage payers. So we couldn’t sustain it without trading at substantial losses.

Mind we have plenty of experience of doing this!
