Laptop Recommendations

that's disconcertingly vague :ROFLMAO:
They just don't suit folk who are used to Windows and don't really like change. Chromebooks are more like a high-performing tablet for folk who don't like tablets (ie want it to feel like a laptop). Yes you can do plenty of stuff on it if you know how, but I know you will just want a Windows PC that does all the Windows PC stuff. Ask my wife if you want her views... I begged her not to get one but she didn't listen and now she admits I was right (!). The bloke in the shop sold it to her on 'not having to update virus software' and I knew that it wasn't a worthwhile trade off.

As a result I basically got a free Chromebook all to myself.

My missus wanted a macbook but I told her not to, as she had no use for one. She basically just liked how it looked and thought, yeah I need that. So she bought one and then went mad at me because I've no idea how to use it (apparently my fault, as I couldn't show her). She just assumed that as I'm a wizard with a PC and laptop that it was the same thing, despite me telling her I wouldn't have a clue. Needless to say that gets no use now and she whinges that she wants an ipad pro, despite me telling her just to get the pro in the first place, instead of the small ipad and macbook. So she spent 2k on something she didn't like, instead of half that on something which would have suited her better, and it's all my fault apparently

I feel your pain!

I'd go with either of the Lenovos, we use them at work, and they put up with quite a bit of abuse. Not a fan of Acer had a bad experience with them some years ago, but they are probably fine by now. 14in laptops are a good compromise between portability and screen size 15in models are a bit bulky and can be awkward to use on a train or whilst travelling but the screen is noticeably better for watching filums and such.

Thankfully our Chromebook experiment was nowhere near as costly, and I can actually use it (not that I especially needed it, but its ok for watching Netflix on the train or something).

I think i'm going to go with the Asus one - not to worried about screen size as i have a 2nd 24 inch monitor at home. I've ruled the Acer out (not sure i can live with a bright red thing!). The only real difference between the Asus and the lenovos is the bluetooth, but i dont really connect anything to my laptop via bluetooth, maybe some bluetooth headphones, but that's it really. Will may have to buy a USB port

I went to my local PC World a couple of months ago. I wasn't a case of what spec do you want, more of what do you have in stock that isn't pink. Good luck.

Ha! Cheers. Yes, not a fan of bright colours, though my current laptop, which was bought for the Mrs, is bloody purple! I wouldn't dare take it on a train or anywhere else in public! Curry's have the Asus silver/blue one in stock and i could live with that colour i think

I just got one for my son after looking for ages a getting frustrated at the "out of stock" I kept coming across. My budget was originally like yours but ended up paying 549 pounds for this: HP - 255 G7 15.6" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5, 512 GB SSD from Currys PC World.

had a look at that one, but was leaning towards an Intel processor, i dont know why really, other than i hadn't heard of Ryzen - is it any different to Intel?

From what I can see, gamers seem to like Ryan so they must be quick. I always find you benefit more from having more memory than a faster princesse

Yes, exactly. An older processor with more memory will work better than a faster processor working with less memory. 16Gb is enough, 8Gb will only be OK if you close apps or programs you aren't using.

A couple of months ago I bought a Walmart brand laptop for $360. Only Ryzen 3 and I spent another $50 to replace the memory with 16GB. 1920x1080 resolution and a great battery life. You really don't need to spend a fortune.
