Lammy epitomises why Labour will struggle to get in.

Judging a demonstration by it's most violent participants, BUT not judging a police force by the most violent police officers is the language of the oppressor.

Lammy was born on 19 July 1972 in Whittington Hospital in Archway, North London, to Guyanese parents David and Rosalind Lammy.[2][3][4] He and his four siblings were raised solely by his mother, after his father left the family when Lammy was 12 years old. Lammy speaks publicly about the importance of fathers and the need to support them in seeking to be active in the lives of their children.[5] He chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Fatherhood and has written on the issue.[6][7][8]

Lammy grew up in Tottenham. Having attended a local primary school, at the age of 10 he was awarded an Inner London Education Authority choral scholarship to sing at Peterborough Cathedral and attend The King's School, Peterborough.[9] He studied at the School of Law, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, graduating with a 2:1.[10] Lammy went on to study at Harvard University where he became the first black Briton to attend Harvard Law School; there he studied a Master of Laws degree and graduated in 1997.[10][11] He was called to the bar of England and Wales in 1994 at Lincoln's Inn and practised as a barrister.[12] He practised as an attorney at Howard Rice in California from 1997 to 1998; and with D.J. Freeman 1998–2000.[4] He is currently a visiting lecturer at SOAS.[13]

Corbyn made a mistake, he should have just said he would stand by Johnson’s deal.
And that was the trouble- Corbyn was too honest
But can you imagine the Tories frothing at the mouth now if Labour had owned the Covid debacle, the current Brexit trade problems, the ridiculous furlough scheme and the worst deficit in history and worsening?

I‘m not delighted that this country is such a shambles but I’m glad Labour are not in the firing line because the chickens are going to come home to roost very soon on this mess.

There were obviously a few idiots there like those throwing fireworks at the mounted Police and I have no sympathy for those but the vast majority were peaceful protesters from what I've seen. Last night on the videps I've seen they were blading peaceful protestors and whacking bona fide journalists, punching women in the face and generally out of control, not reasonable or professional and just downright bad policing

The part of the Bill relating to protests needs dropping

Can't say I particularly rate Lammy. Think he's quite a shallow thinker. BUT to be fair to him he has very little to do with why Labour won't be in power for the next 13/14 years.

what makes you say you think he is a shallow thinker?

what makes you say you think he is a shallow thinker?

Because like most of the PLP he took every opportunity to slander the party membership over the last few years. However unlike most of the PLP I don't think he actually wanted some throwback to the Blair era. Seems like he just joined in parroting the same soundbites out of peer pressure.

I should also clarify, when I say I think he's a bit shallow, I'm not saying he's unique in that regard among Labour MPs. Far from it.

I can’t listen to him - the reason this lot will never get in is they spend 95percent criticising the current gvt at every turn and not enough time on offering up a credible , alternative vision for people to buy into.
Yeah. It's a good job the government don't spend their time criticising the opposition.

Or indeed any political party in the modern era

Well Fatcat- what would be credible alternative policies to offer the electorate- I would be really interested to hear your views on this?

In days gone by if there was a military coup, revolution or non democratic power shift in a country the national broadcasting offices was always the primary target, because controlling the media means you control the message, to suggest that reportage and coverage doesn’t have massive influence on voting is simply nonsense.

The Conservative’s are seemingly allowed to make claims that are not backed up by figures and are allowed to go unchallenged by many media outlets, national debt, rising crime, strong defence policy, wealth creation etc things that really don’t hold up under any proper scrutiny, I believe many people are not politically engaged and believe what they are told, you can’t blame them for not having an interest, I know next to nothing about cars, if I read a review in a magazine or see a television program that says Volkswagen’s are rubbish and Vauxhall’s are good, I’d accept it and it would probably shape my thinking.

Ever since Orgreave and Hillsborough I have learnt that the police are not to be trusted.
Actually, I remember a story from years ago (circa 1970) about a man who was stopped by police whilst driving on the back road between Sadberge to Stockton. The police claimed that a tail light was not working. Then they asked him to blow into the bag as they said that they could smell alcohol. The man protested but the police told him that if he didn't take the test he would be arrested. The police said that the bag showed positive and asked him to leave his car and get into the police car. He was taken to Stockton police station and kept over night. The following morning he was released without charge.
It turns out that the man was a magistrate and a lifelong teetotaller. His car was examined and there was nothing wrong with the tail light. It was actually a new car.
At the time I was only 15 but that really set me wondering about police behaviour.
Since then I have seen my late brother taken to the police station for questioning because he was walking home from my house to his house at 2.00 am
A work mate taken to Redcar police station for walking home from a nightclub at 3.00 am. They let him put of the cell at 06.30. The same time as his shift at work was due to start.
Trust the police- nah- I view them with suspicion.
Who would you report a crime to then?

Are you suggesting that the police smashing their shields down onto people ISN'T heavy-handed?

They aren't a militia - they are the police. They're supposed to 'police by consent'. They are not an arm of the state machine. Especially as the state moves towards fascism.
Even former Chief Constable of Durham is worried about the way our policing is going

I mean that is literally the job of the opposition party to hold the ruling party to account for their actions

To put some perspective around policing in England and Wales. In the 12 months up to the begining of March 2019, the police managed to charge or summons a perpetrator in only 7.8% of crimes. Calling the police means you have a 92% chance of being given a crime number and no further action.

The figure of 7.8% is down from 9.1% for the previous year. In fact, for some interest, the figures, as published for the last 5 years, 2015-2019 are:
15.5% 13.1% 11.2% 9.1% 7.8%

A perpetrator being arrested has halved in just 5 years. If the trend continues, in 2023 under 4% of crimes will result in an arrest.

The policing in England and Wales is a disgrace.

Ithink that all this post subject epitomises is that Labour will never get in because people are too happy to accept the lack of respect that this current government has for the electorate... too many will not look into why the country is ireally n the state it is in, theyre happy to accept that its down to the "imigrants" "PC brigade " "woke snowflakes" and "liberal lefties???" that have made us a laughing stock around the world...

they think a bit of flag waving and sabre rattling will make us great again, theyre fuming that now weve left the EU, the EU arent crumbling and meeting our every demand...

Not enough people are willing to see if the alternative to the current "class divide" would work for all of us and not just the few...
