Lads you went to school with that should have made it

Mickey Condon. Couple of years younger than me. He had it all. Boro took him on but he couldn't stay away from his mates and trouble so he was let go (although these days it wouldn't be classed as trouble).
Smashing lad. Watched him playing in the Teesbrough 1st division in his late teens and early twenties.3 stone heavier but defenders still couldn't catch him and he had a great shot on him.
Scored nearly every game he played in that league often 2 or 3.
What a loss.

Peter Singh, Stainsby. Kevin Gibson, Newlands.

The best players I played against were Beagrie and Ripley, mind, and they made it to the highest level. Stephen Bell was amazing too.

I played school county football with a lad called Danny Jacques. He was on his way to making it to the top until injuries ended it. Was in jail for robbing someone the last time I heard. The tw*t injured me on purpose at my Leeds trial so don’t feel sorry for him lol.

How crazy - I went to school with a lad called Danny Jacques too - our Danny was a goal keeper though (pretty decent too) but never went to jail. I think he played for the area.

Played with Beagrie on Hutton field, Steve Bell was my training partner a couple of times at Darlo (he was my hero when I was younger at the Boro) he had put on a bit of weight and used to put a bin liner under his top 😀
Beagrie was unbelievably skillfully, Bell was skillful but so quick off the mark he would drop his shoulder and skip past you like you didn't exist.

John Ward ,St Anthony’s,brilliant player .Had trials at Villa and Wolves but just wasn’t bothered,a great and very funny lad too .

Jonathan woodgate said in a spurs interview before- Christopher Ripley. Seen him play and he was very good, he ended up at Darlo and his brother fould
Play as well.

I went to school with a lad called Gary brown who was just so much better than everyone else. Couldn't keep out of bother when we were kids though.

Hope he is doing well in life.

I did play football with 2 young adult men letter in life who were phenomenal. One wasn't interested in playing footie professionally and refused a pro contract and one went on to be a coach.

Tommy Osborne - Mill Lane - 1963

Newcastle and Norwich but I don't think he made it to full senior team experience. Great talent at senior school, his slightly older brother, Barry, was probably better but didn't go down the professional footballer route and did engineering.

I was fortunate to go to school with Colin Cooper & there were a couple more who did go onto academies Andrew Strong can't remember which academy he went to John Tinkler who went to Hartlepool & I do remember I think it was Michael Trotter who went to the Boro Academy.
There were a fair few more I heard the other keeper from my year went to Bradford but I can't remember his name his nickname was Pecker.
This was Sedgefield Comp now community college

There were a few lads in my year who went pro (Kevin Nolan was the most succesful). One lad seemed destined for stardom, and was good enough to make his full debut at 16, but never kicked on. Just looked him up and he's now in charge of "pre-Academy" at Liverpool, scouting and coaching 5 year olds. Never knew that was a thing, and kind of wish it wasn't.
