Labour’s paedophile Twitter post

Politics is about winning votes and getting into parliament.

Arguably, we have learnt over the last 6 years or so that crude, easy to understand messages resonate with a pretty large % of the electorate.

It’s not going to resonate with me but I understand why they are doing it.

We’ve also learned personal attacks do work - ref Corbyn

I think you'll find that the majority of the grooming gangs are Pakistan Muslims. Sunak is an Indian Hindu. Before the left wing kick in as well, there was a white paedo gang convicted in the West Midlands earlier this week, so unfortunately it's across all creeds & colours?
There aren't any grooming gangs.

Well this is the problem isn't it? Politics isn't about winning. It's about governing in the best way and representing the people that vote for you. They can **** right off if they think this sort of behaviour is the best way to represent me. Politicians set the tone. If they stoop to this level then society will reflect their behaviour. Personally I want better from our politicians and our society. Win at all costs mentality is for childish schoolyard games, not statesmanship.

Can anyone explain how these tweets are racist?

There's a racist trope that british asian men are more likely than other ethnicity men to form gangs in order to sexually exploit underage white girls. It's the same sort of emotionally charged stuff as the QAnon and replacement conspiracy theories. And its the sort of idea the alt right/online right try to use to stoke racism and violence in people who otherwise wouldn't be like that.

The criticism for the Labour poster is they could have gone after the tories on these stats for abusers not going to prison at any time when Johnson or Truss were PM but they didn't. They're doing it now when there's a brown skinned PM.

And OF COURSE you can say in your opinion the ads aren't racist and that it's just legitimate criticism of the highest office and this PM just happens to look how he looks but Labour would use the same ads now whoever it was. Thats what people mean calling it "dog-whistle". You can't hear it, you're not meant to be sure its there. If it was something more explicit like a slur it wouldn't be dog-whistle,it'd just be a whistle!

Of course, we're now gearing up for local elections which Labour will be hoping is a disaster for the Tories and potentially getting themselves on an election footing. The ad isn't to my tastes whatsoever, but firstly I understand (though disagree) why they are playing the Tories at their own game, and secondly there is nothing remotely racist about that ad at all. Shockingly bad taste, but not one bit racist and to those suggesting it is I genuinely wonder whether their anti Labour / anti-Starmer views are causing them to see something that's not there so there's another stick to beat them with.

Labour and the Cons seem to be obsessing over the Brexit voting, red wall voters, it feels like the whole election strategy is going to be about winning those seats but are they over estimating how many of the electorate have those views? Simon Clarke said on twitter recently that the main concern amongst his constituents is the small boats but I rarely hear people locally talking about that, far more people seem to be concerned about the cost of living crisis.

They are moronically assuming those voters went to the Tories because they had right wing views instead of the reason being they wanted Brexit to happen after voting for it. Brexit has happened now so they should be acting like that was in the past and give those voters what they now want which is the same left wing thing they always wanted.

Yep, this. Starmer is intent on fighting the last election not the next one and taking for granted that the voters the Labour party had last time will automatically vote for them next time. And completely ignoring those who didn't vote last time and, especially, those who couldn't because they were too young to. It's a 'strategy' that deserves to backfire.

Is that Stanley Johnson bottom right?

Just to be clear, in case you've misunderstood me, I'm not saying it's not racist or that it is racist. I was just explaining how it can be seen that way and that the ambiguety is part of what people mean saying dog-whistle.

Politics is about power. Gaining it, using it….and holding on to it.
How you achieve it in the first place is the point.
Labour know what’s coming in the build up to the election. For me it’s just a case of telling the Tories they’re not going to tolerate their shoite anymore.

Sorry @SuperStu I understand what you're saying and that wasn't directed at you. It was more a generic point about some of the posters suggesting it's racist somehow.
