No, I don't think we would get our money back on those 3 combined. In fact I think we would lose a chunk on Lath and lose on Engel. (Bangura was a lot cheaper).
We will lose the entire Hoppe fee, Silvera and Gilbert too for me.
I see us making no gain in Clarke or Barlaser either.
There's no real resale value in Lenihan or Smith, both will eventually leave for no fees, as with Jones (GK)
I don't see much potential profit in any of the signings made, bar Rogers and VdB.
I think McGree could raise a small profit and potentially Forss, but not massive. Who would pay big money for them?
Dieng would at least wash his face.
Azaz is far too early to say.
You don’t have to profit of every player, we need players to operate and tick over as a club. We have to field xi players and have a bench to stay in this league. Some purchases will lead to that, others will be profitable.

What value would anyone have put on Akpom in July 2022?

£1.5m? maybe £2m at a push.

This shows how difficult it is to predict future values. He was sold for at least £10.3m in August 2023.

Our available squad is small not massive - look at the players that played at home to Coventry, particularly look at the subs bench. This was a massive game for us against a rival we needed to put our best players out and we did, best available that is. 7 of that match squad had not even started a Championship game and another one is now at Blackpool on loan.

Middlesbrough: Glover, van den Berg (Kavanagh 85'), Fry, Clarke, Engel (Bangura 74'), Howson, Barlaser, Isaiah Jones, Rogers, Greenwood (Gilbert 81'), Coburn

Subs: Gilbert, Coulson, Bangura, Jamie Jones, Nkrumah, Kavanagh, McCabe, Bridge, Bilongo

Exactly. And when you look at our 25 (ish) man squad now, we actually own about 20+ of them

I'll leave you to it indeedio. Have a good one.

It is a 30 man squad. Just look on the club website.
29 named players plus new signing Thomas.
No kids in that.

We own 26 of them, we have 4 loan players and can only have 5 on loan in any matchday squad.

I obviously agree with this.
I was simply observing that I don't see many of the players we have signed generating profit.
Sadly neither do I see them collectively as good enough to take us up.

Signings like Dieng can be really good signings even if they don't ever generate a profit on sale and end up as sunk costs.
Crooks has been another very much like that.
Great value.

Some purchases will add little to us as a team and will be sunk costs or sold at a loss. I think we have recruited quite a few of those.
Some loans will represent great value, others not so much.

We may not agree that they are the disappointing signings but let's use those. Do you think they have dropped in value since we purchased them?

If we were to move all 3 on in the summer, which I don't think we should, but if we did we would get at least our money back.
At the moment, no, I don't think so but there are still 18 games left.

Before he got injured again, Latte Lath had come back into the team, started 6 games and scored 3 times. If he could replicate that, say start 10 of the final 18 games and score 5 times then that would be 10 league goals for the season. At that point, you could possibly see a middling European team maybe offering enough for us to break even.

Bangura isn't going to play due to injury.

Engel is likely to be a back-up to Thomas. You could possibly see a team that has been promoted to the Championship take a punt on him for under £1m.

That said, you don't need to make a profit of everyone, what you need is to make a profit of the group of players you sell in a given window and that has to be enough to invest in improving the team.

I think it's too early to judge the recruitment but next summer, Scott's "model" has to start to bear fruit. This summer we took several steps back, next summer we need to start moving forwards.

Only around 16 of the current squad are fully fit and available if we played a game on Sunday.

Players like Hoppe are in the squad, but its very unlikely they will play for us this season.

If people are using our current league position to assess our recruitment over the last 2 years they have to take into account an horrendous set of injuries and absences this season and a cup run into the L/C Semis.

The only player we have probably lost value on that has been bought for a fee since Jan 2022 is Hoppe who is still a US international. The increases are Rogers (£8m bid supposedly received) and Van Den Berg, and probably Dieng and McGree. In summary 4 up 1 down and 5 evenish.

Indeed we will see.

Ipswich won at Millwall 4-0 with 2 new strikers in Kieffer Moore and Ali Al Hamadi .
We sold Rogers and Crooks without replacing them .
Maybe we just don't have any money ?
Maybe we don't have a recruitment team ?
To not come up with ONE is wrong .
People have named numerous Strikers on here ( me included ) why we go into the back end of the season with no centre forwards is mind blowing .

It’s looking more likely with each game that this season is a write off but we’re not in the business of paying whatever the asking price is anymore. If the right deal can’t be made, we’re not going to do any business. If we don’t spend in the summer it will be very disappointing. There’s no point throwing your toys out of the pram over it now though.

Maybe Ipswich thought it was worth pushing the boat out in January as they were certain to be in the top 6.

Scott also said they offered a long term deal for Moore for next season - it wasn't just a 4 month loan.

Myself I still think none of the challengers will get promoted - the third spot will probably go to Southampton in the play offs. They are 4/6 for promotion.
