Kalvin Phillips

It's been an incredible demise of a very good player.

He got stick for winning things and not playing at City. Yet signing for West Ham has lowered his stock. I hope City don't expect much money back for him.

I imagine he could be a decent low price signing for someone. Leeds if they go up? That said no doubt nailed on for the Euros under Gareth.

In a game dominated by statistics, his do not look like the ones which will attract bids from PL clubs, do they?

Came on at 3-1 up. Added to other games it doesn't paint the picture of a guy who can help your midfield tick.

I think the best bet for his confidence and development might be a stint abroad. Get away from the media and fans here.

I get he is very frustrated but that reaction is not very clever. It wasn’t even that bad as abuse goes.

Danny Drinkwater vibes in terms of career trajectory.

He wasn’t the same player in his last few months at Leeds, that last injury he got there before his City move was the start of the decline.

Was that the shoulder injury?

I think Guardiola didn’t help by bringing his weight into it. Phillips has spoken really openly about how it affected it him to the point where he received an apology from Guardiola. He was around 1kg overweight when Guardiola went public apparently. That feels harsh to me. You could weight yourself, get off the scales, fart and then weigh yourself again and be 1kg lighter tbh.

I also think there’s an element with some of those Leeds players who flourished under Bielsa just not being able to replicate or recapture that form once that period has finished. We had it with Aitor and players like Gibson and Clayton. They absolutely excelled and overachieved in one set-up, under one manager, and then never scaled those heights again.

It’s a shame for Phillips. He’s a good player imo. He needs a fresh start. I’d like to see him move abroad. It’s interesting Southgate told him he’d be better off joining West Ham than Juventus though. I thought that was bizarre.

Was never his biggest fan, however in the Euros for England he was fantastic. Went to City never played and it's totallly regressed him as a player.

No the hamstring tear the year before, the shoulder was after he moved to City, I have a few mates who are Leeds fans and they were saying he just wasn’t the same player once he came back, a lot wanted him dropped at the time as he was really struggling. Seems to of lost a fair chunk of his mobility.

Swearing?

He stuck his middle finger up when he was getting abuse.

It was never a penalty, not his fault.

I think it’s tough for players who get abused by all kinds of low life fans but Phillips does need to remember that football and the idiot fans have made him a very rich man.

I was saying when he left Leeds, he’s not that good. This is probably his level. Pep saw it early.
