Kalvin Phillips England call up

I'll admit I haven't seen huge amounts of him but he looks tidy enough.

Personally I think it's a good thing that we now have an England set up that is willing to experiment and try new things. Like calling up a few different players who are in form but who might play for unfashionable clubs (or even last season in an unfashionable league).

Better than always picking the same players from the top 6 clubs only, even if they're bang average like many England managers have in the past. At the moment any English player no matter who they play for in the Prem must think if they are on form they have half a chance of getting a call up and I personally think that's a good thing.

Good point.

So despite not kicking a ball in the prem so therefore no different to how he was last season, so now he’s in the prem he’s “good enough for the England team” what a joke.

Yeah good point although I think Lundstram is pretty versatile.
He's had a brilliant season and chipped in with goals and assists.

Yeah I really like him tbf. Was a good player to have in the fantasy team. Interesting to see how he does this coming season now teams will have got used to his late runs

I had him in my fantasy team Block , he was categorised as a defender but as we know played in midfield....they will probably change that for next season.Booo

Grealish would have been a mainstay by now if he wasn't viewed (rightly maybe) as a bit of a nob and a bad lad. Quality player.
You just know as soon as he leaves Villa for a top 6 club he'll be immediately in the squad.

Fair enough by Southgate I think. Despite England actually looking like a good team for a change, there still isn't a huge amount of players to choose from.

Phillips can compete with Rice and Dier and provide some balance to the team.

Probably the most consistent English player playing outside the top league for the last few seasons. We lack a little depth in the holding role so worth a look. Has a definite aggressive streak which will need to kept in check at international level - can't see international refs giving him as much leeway as championship ones. He also likes to carry the ball from deep which could be an issue at a higher level, potentially exposing the middle of the park if he gets caught up field.

He's been discussed all season as a potential England call up and was getting repeated coverage on Sky.

It's not out of the blue.

Talking of England squads I was in disagreement with the selection of Mears to the exclusion of Burnley’s James Tarkowski who was one of the best PL defenders last season.

Today looking at the U21 squad they have picked a Doncaster midfielder and overlooked Dwight McNeil. Again Burnley fans will tell you how good he played last season.

It just seems that the Club either fits or it just doesnt.
