Kalvin Phillips England call up

Jamaica were heavily pushing for him to declare for them, I suspect it may have forced Southgate's hand slightly.

Do you think he deserves his call up? I just used grealish as an example

Decent competition for Rice, fair enough he played at championship level but I would argue he’s deserving of a look to see if he can compete for a role in the side. Think it’s a good time to bring him in.

Grealish may be talented, but I get the feeling that his antics during lockdown didnt help his cause with getting into the England squad.

Personally I beleive that England players need to be squeeky clean and playing for your country is a honour and privilege. With players being in the public eye like they are these days, with almost celebrity like status's they need to be setting an exemplary example.

I just used him as an example but surely there is a more deserving player from last season

I'll admit I haven't seen huge amounts of him but he looks tidy enough.

Personally I think it's a good thing that we now have an England set up that is willing to experiment and try new things. Like calling up a few different players who are in form but who might play for unfashionable clubs (or even last season in an unfashionable league).

Better than always picking the same players from the top 6 clubs only, even if they're bang average like many England managers have in the past. At the moment any English player no matter who they play for in the Prem must think if they are on form they have half a chance of getting a call up and I personally think that's a good thing.
