Just watching Cummings live on TV

What if she didn't want to come down to the countries main Covid-19 hotspot? (At the time anyway).

It's fairly clear Cummings is protecting his extended family here. They probably asked him to come up, but he's not going to say that on live TV.
Yeah righto 🙄🤣

That's exactly what Cummings was trying to avoid.

It's no use waiting till someone is hospitalised at that point the child is likely to be taken into care. Cummings actually should have been hospitalised, but since he was still conscious they decided against it. His O2 was 92. And why would they ask their relatives to drive to London and take all kinds of risks (where would they do shopping in a strange location for example) when they had a perfectly good solution in Durham?

By the way, at the risk of causing worry, Covid-19 can take you from doing ok to being dead in a matter of hours. So don't leave anything to chance for your families.

I still think he took the best option in his situation. It reduced the risk to people outside his family. And reduced the risk for his family also, in the event he needed help.

Your ridiculous apologist cap-doffing to your superiors is exactly why he will get away with this and as a result, thousands will follow his lead and disregard the welfare of the wider public.

You are part of the problem and should anything happen to anyone you love (which I sincerely hope doesn’t happen), I hope you have the self awareness to realise people with your attitude may be to blame.

My nieces have been talking to my parents for weeks. They stand at the garden gate and talk to them while my parents stand in the door of their bungalow. Generally after dropping off groceries. Though on occasion they pop round to make sure they're all right (my parents are know to downplay issues). Can we expect a visit from the local Stasi now I've admitted this?

The first thing I did after hearing about the lock down was discuss with my son and his wife about caring for their 15 month old if anything happened to them. And about who would look after my dog in case I got sick. Surely I'm not the only one who has discussed this kind of thing? Or are you all just winging it and hoping for the best?
You ignored what I said and came up with another situation. In one of the press conferences a member of the public asked if it was ok to talk to their parent (as they could do in a public park since we moved into first phase of stopping the lockdown) in her large garden where they could socially distance. The answer was "NO".

I wonder if he remembered to contact Royal Mail to redirect their mail to his parents house while he was in Durham. It would be such a shame if his wife couldn't open her birthday cards on the 12th of April whilst sitting on a grassy riverbank having been driven there heroically by her visually impaired husband.

to be honest having heard his side of events, then every possible scenario he covered was plausible and I can understand his reasoning, if he had security concerns and he genuinely didn't have anybody he felt he could call on in London, then under extreme situations involving the welfare of a child, then he did what he felt was best for his family, a bit foolhardy to stop at Barnard Castle on the test drive but he handled the media quite well and in a composed fashion, the media will run with it for a while but he has the backing of the PM, so a line has been drawn under the situation really...….the thing I was unsure on was why didn't he at least contact Raab if Boris was out of action??

Every scenario he covered was plausible? What even loading your wife and child into a car and taking them on a 30 minute test drive to "test your vision"?

I've got some magic beans going cheap if you're interested.

You couldn’t be more wrong, I’m afraid.
Only way a line gets drawn under this is if he resigns on Johnson sacks him. Either way, this will still sit towards the very top of the list of shameful incidents in the career of Johnson. The damage is already well and truly done.

Johnson is hoping to brazen this one out which was predictable from the start. He doesn’t have PMQT this week and having done two briefings in a row I expect we won’t seem him at all this week and he will lay low hoping this all goes away.

if he continues any trust he may have built up by delivering Brexit will be burnt away irrespective of whether Cummings stays or goes. it probably already has. Fortunately for him he doesn’t have an electorate to answer to at a ballot box for some time.

Sadly I think that's the crux of the matter. Johnson can afford to be unpopular politically for a while and this will eventually burn itself out. By the time the next election rolls round it'll be history.

He clearly doesn't care about the impact on public trust when this is absolutely vital in handling the pandemic. The fact neither him or Cummings have offered anything remotely resembling an apology tells you everything (apologising for how other people feel is not an apology).

Arrogant, entitled and self centred. Not even competent with it. And we've given them almost unchecked control for 5 years.

Lawyer and writer, David Allen Green on twitter having got hold of a copy of the statement claims the whole thing's been "lawyered" down to every last dot and comma. Prepared more like a witness statement, and bears no resemblance to Cummings other writing and his blog.

Why is no one questioning why the lie is actually worse then the crime it was meant to cover up?

Breaking lockdown rules and driving whilst impaired both incur the same fine: ÂŁ1000

However: endangering a child whilst driving whilst knowingly impaired? Surely that's a more serious one?

Also, I know we talk endlessly about the hypocrisy of the government but: using your child as a defence on one hand, then creating lies that you endangered his life is just weird. More holes in these lies than there was before

Yeah, the likes of Gove are out in force saying a line has been drawn under it now and it’s clear he acted lawfully and responsibility and we need to get one with covid response....

So predictable. I really don’t think it’s going to work this time though, the Cummings debacle momentum is too strong for it just to go away through distraction and whataboutery tactics this time. The media want him even more, after he tried to set them up as the bad guys. He’s used them to further his purposes for years and now he’s bitten the hand that feeds him he’s goosed. Just a matter of time.

Gove - The drive to Barnard Castle was to prepare to return to work (nothing in regulations for that) - but he walked and sat on a bench - that was for exercise (driving not allowed at that time and sitting down wasn't allowable for exercise).

He returned to work when his wife was first ill because she didn't have covid-19 symptoms (later that evening they were driving 260 miles because they didn't have covid-19 symptoms?)

Yep, the more these clowns open theit mouths, the more they jump two footed in! Questions and seeking clarification is growing, not subsiding.
Considering Cummings managed to hide Boris and the government out of the way of scrutiny during the election campaign, he's dropped a ******* by thinking they can publicly talk their way out of this one.
