Just watching Cummings live on TV

What was he supposed to do? What would you recommend?
Get medical advice locally first, asses the risk of placing your son in a tiny metal box with parents who have COVID19. Wait at least a few days to see if wife’s recent symptoms develop into anything significant. Bring sacrificial niece down on a train - far less risk than three infected folk travelling to stay near 70 year old parents. Seek a local solution- doesn’t seem to have even explored it -

What if she didn't want to come down to the countries main Covid-19 hotspot? (At the time anyway).

It's fairly clear Cummings is protecting his extended family here. They probably asked him to come up, but he's not going to say that on live TV.

then they should of used the services available for an emergency reason
What services? As it happens they followed guidance. The guidance can't cover every situation.

Would you hand your four year old over to some unknown stranger when you had the offer of help from a close family member who was in a relatively safe group?

Who knows what he did and why he did it, he‘s one of those people who you know are lying because their mouth is moving. Even Tory mps want him out. You have to set an example in his position and no matter what drivel he comes out with, there were alternatives.
Its another shxt show from the government.

As always a clear division of opinion based on your political bias on here. His actions have divided the nation as well as his party. He has clearly fractured and undermined the implementation of the government strategy on Covid19 and embarrassed the government when their credibility is already in tatters. what reason could there possibly be to retain him?

You have also drawn attention to a sad but true fact that this country is more savagely divided than it’s ever been between the strange cult of Toryism where it seems anything goes as long as you are on their side and the rest.

Are you deliberatly being obtuse?

If I became seriously unwell for any reason I would trust the local authority and emergency services to ensure my son was cared for.

You're talking about an extreme scenario which did not happen as none of the Cummings family had symtoms of C19 before they drove north and his wife never had any at all.

He never even asked anyone local to him for such support.

We seem to have inherited some awful press correspondents. I used to respect Peston but since moving channels he seems to have lost his sparkle.
But what is it about Sky's Rigby ? Does she just hate everyone , because I find I'm siding with whoever she's slagging off.

It's really the first time I've seen Cummings talking and he didn't do a bad job, but was that filling up of petrol a weakness. Whoever wouldn't know where they got petrol and when. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it.

Journalists involved were boring, repetetive and unimaginative. After the feeding frenzy based on some misinformation they were the ones who came out of it badly.
Their whole agenda has been to get the head of Cummings. And chalk it up as some kind of victory. They failed miserably other than to bore us all in to submission.

Can't believe they thought that they had my hero nailed and have now let him off the virtual hook which he was never on.

"Hero" = anti establishment/anti EU/one of my own (Durham lad and I don't give a sxxt about how much money his family has).

It shouldn't be though. It is a simple fact of right versus wrong. A few Torys, even strong Brexiteers to prove it's not that, have also said he should go.

The daily mail even has the story damning him. THE DAILY MAIL!!!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion I know that but if you defend Cummings and, unlike the cabinet you stand to gain nothing from it, you're worthy of nothing but disgust and contempt. This is a much clearer dividing line than left and right or Brexit and remain. No one can claim any credibility, or lack of hypocrisy, or common decency, if you defend this utter contemptuous betrayal of the British electorate you're frankly disgusting.

In some respects the longer he survives the more political capital Johnson will burn through, which may be a good thing for the opposition.

It will be interesting to see what someone leagally trained makes of this, someone like Starmer, for example.
As in EFL?

They forgot to mention his role in the Australian bush files, the Titanic and the extinction of the dinosaurs.

to be honest having heard his side of events, then every possible scenario he covered was plausible and I can understand his reasoning, if he had security concerns and he genuinely didn't have anybody he felt he could call on in London, then under extreme situations involving the welfare of a child, then he did what he felt was best for his family, a bit foolhardy to stop at Barnard Castle on the test drive but he handled the media quite well and in a composed fashion, the media will run with it for a while but he has the backing of the PM, so a line has been drawn under the situation really...….the thing I was unsure on was why didn't he at least contact Raab if Boris was out of action??

Holgate, I don't agree that in totality his explanation was plausible. Each bit maybe, in totality not a hope in hell is he telling the truth.

On him retaining his position, also not a hope in hell. He will be done by the end of next week.

Unbelievable Jeff!

That's exactly what Cummings was trying to avoid.

It's no use waiting till someone is hospitalised at that point the child is likely to be taken into care. Cummings actually should have been hospitalised, but since he was still conscious they decided against it. His O2 was 92. And why would they ask their relatives to drive to London and take all kinds of risks (where would they do shopping in a strange location for example) when they had a perfectly good solution in Durham?

By the way, at the risk of causing worry, Covid-19 can take you from doing ok to being dead in a matter of hours. So don't leave anything to chance for your families.

I still think he took the best option in his situation. It reduced the risk to people outside his family. And reduced the risk for his family also, in the event he needed help.

Jesus, you are on top form tonight 😂 Your posts have cheered me up no ends. This line in particular, is genius -

Who is second on your hero list? Hitler maybe?
