The Government focus has to be on the health of the nation and the economy, football coming back is a nice diversion and distraction to shift peoples focus away from their covid-19 handling after a difficult week.
I understand why fans are looking forward to seeing football, but the reality is this is about the sky money for clubs first and foremost, If clubs don‘t fulfil their contractual obligations and voted to end the leagues, the PL and a much much lesser degree championship teams will no doubt lose money they have probably already spent. It is not about sporting glory other than a small minority of clubs. Teams like Burnley, Boro, Everton, Birmingham would happily cancel the league tomorrow if they were guaranteed the money off sky, BT Sport and the like. Only those in with a shout of winning something or avoiding the drop will be bothered. I doubt many really care about the fans. Liverpool (the city) will see a real breach of the new rules soon enough, as will Leeds i’d guess due to mass gatherings.
Health should be put first. I accept lockdown has health implications too, cancer treatment etc, mental health. I get the economy has to be started and furlough ended asap. It is hard for the Government to get the balance right, they deserve some slack for some of the good they have done too. They know they have a judgement day coming once its all over.
This is a far more dangerous time we are heading in to for the at risk groups. Track test and trace is important, as are the antibody tests. However until a successful vaccine or treatment is found many will be too frightened to try to live a more normal life. Many fit folk wont see them or hear about them, but there will be hundreds and thousands, if not millions of them around the UK as they sit and watch and hear about more death and selfishness. Some people talk as if those over 70 have lived their life anyway, forgetting that one day they aspire to reach that age and well beyond. I bet a few younger folk have a less thoughtless attitude then.
Those amongst us who have relatives working on the front line in some way or have friends and family with underlying health conditions or are older fear the knock on effect all this extra activity amongst younger people will Indirectly cause. Some could do well to remember that in society. People are a selfish breed and look at their own criteria as the norm. When out and about, how many people concentrate 100% on who or what is around them. Social distancing in the street does not happen that well now, I suspect it will be much harder to get your 2M moving forward. Supermarkets can be a nightmare many ignore the rules it will get worse all across society. There are many underlying health issues that the eye can not see. The fit and healthy will care about themselves and their family but many will not think about the risk to strangers especially those with unseen health worries.
