Joy Division

Aren't XSLF nothing more than a tribute band - only have Henry Cluney from original line up. Still £10 to see them.

Like everything else the costs for live music are starting to rocket. Its incredibly hard for promoters (at a local level) to make any significant money from shows. I forsee big changes in the next 12 months.
Very true. Very few decent venues locally for larger bands in the area. The Globe looks decent mind. Seen fingers many a time but just seeing live music is my aim. I mean our lass dragged me to the Shires and Ward Thomas. luckily no one saw me in my Clash T. shirt.

You only have to look at The Globes programme so far. Some good bands but there's going to be no risks taken in there. Town Hall seems to have defaulted to tribute shows. The Arc do very limited live music and when they do it's also very safe in the bands they book.

That leaves The Georgian (300 cap) and The Westgarth (200ish cap) - majority of shows in both venues are done by external promoters who are facing hikes in costs across the board and who have to recoup all costs from ticket sales.

It's a sad state of affairs when people will pay £15 to see a tribute band but won't take a chance and pay £8/10 on an original band.

I've been promoting locally for 11 years averaging 10/11 shows a year - I'm committed to several shows this Autumn & 3 shows next year but I'm seriously considering pulling stumps after those. I can't see it being financially viable anymore. I don't care about making a profit (Its nice when you do) but breaking even will be a challenge going forward.
