Joy Division

I have The Killers to thank for reintroducing me to Joy Division thanks to their cover of Shadow Play.

Going on holiday tomorrow and I'm going to dig out my two favourite books that cover Joy Division, Touching from a distance and the brilliant Hacienda by Peter Hook.

I count myself so fortunate to have seen the band in Leeds as a student, but I also think they may have played at the Rock Garden, but not sure.

No - they played there very early when they were called Warsaw (there's a bootleg of it). They were booked to play the Rock Garden a few weeks after he took his life.

New Order played the Rock Garden, one of their earliest gigs.

One of my favourites. Absolutely love them.

I got into Joy Division when I was 14-15 years old, when the Substance album was released in the late 80s. Yes, I was a very depressed teenager

By the way, people should read Peter Hook's book about his time in Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures. Some great stories, very funny, including, the time Stephen Morris was questioned by West Yorks Police on suspicion of being the Yorkshire Ripper! Well, it's funny now.

He also mentioned he regularly listened to that Rock Garden gig mentioned above

The Killers got their name from a fictional band in the New Order ‘Crystal’ video

going to see New Order next month, no doubt include a few Joy Division songs in the set.
