What a top politician and man he was. If he felt it, he said it, everyone knew where they were with him. He was a shrewd politician, the type of which we miss today. He kept Brown and Blair in line, R.I.P. Big John.

I had the pleasure to work with him on several occasions, he was a very thoughtful man with time for everyone he met and a great sense of humour. A real old school politician and a true gent.
