Jimmy Carr - What An Ar S e

Well, I like him, especially on 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown. I dont watch who wants to be a millionare though.

Jimmy Carr would say that if you find the humour offensive you don't understand humour.

I had this conversation with my daughter last week oddly enough.
Making jokes about our soldiers loosing limbs in my book is not humour but suppose again each to their own

You obviously have a sense of humour that doesn't fit well with carr's and that's OK. His gags, generally are aimed at the listener not the child, man, priest or woman.
His jokes set up a premise then pulls the rug away from the listener and the joke is on them for making an assumption. It's how most of his jokes work.

With hecklers he can be brutal but that's the rules of comedy.

Wow that was almost as long ago as his tax avoidance scheme. You’re a solid grudge holder aren’t you?

Carr actually said injured servicemen who spoke to him found that funny. There’s a gallows humour with some of them guys. Not saying whether it’s right or wrong but it seemed to go down ok

So based on that are all subjects fair game or not?

It depends on the structure of the joke and who is the butt of the joke. A joke about fat people with fat people as the butt of the joke is probably not great. A joke about fat people where the listener is the butt of the joke is OK, although I am not the humour police and we all decide for ourselves what's acceptable and not.

My point was that Jimmy Carr's jokes tend to have the listener as the butt of the joke if you look beyond the theme of the joke. If you find the themes offensive, it doesn't necessarily mean the joke is offensive.

Two tours of Iraq and one of Afghanistan for me (in the cozy well catered and looked after RAF style 😁) and I have former colleagues missing limbs, and gallows humour is the way most of the day to day tribulations and crewroom banter is delivered and dealt with. You'll not find many service personnel offended by it (or Jimmy Carr).

Ricky Gervais has bits in his act, and has spoken at length about this in various outlets.

If anyone is a fan of the broader art of stand up, I can't recommend the YouTube channel 'Comedy Without Errors' highly enough.

He does deep dives on comedians and different techniques people use on stage.

He has some great stuff on Stewart Lee, Bill Burr, Billy Connelly and Dave Chapelle.

That's what I thought too. It's very unpleasant, granted but it's a coping mechanism. Although what Injuries do RAF personnel get? To vigorous a massage at the Spa? Obesity from the chocolates placed on their pillows?

Normally Haribo related!

To be fair my two mates were injured in a mortar attack round the airfield perimeter in Iraq.
