James McClean criticises FA and EFL over crowd abuse

He probably is. He certainly represents the Irish national team.
In summary the country he earns his money isn’t his country
It's his country of birth. Like yourself and myself the only documentation he'll hold is to say he's either British or he's Irish, possibly dual nationality.

The sooner we have a written constitution the better, and if England goes it alone then we will be English, until then we're British.

Not European? 😜

He doesn’t mind getting paid a good wage from a country he despises so much

"The country" doesn't pay him a penny, a football club that happens to be in the UK where he's from pays him his wages. Also I imagine he doesn't hate the country, or a large section of the population, more the establishment who run it and as far as I'm aware none of them have anything to do with Wigan Athletic.

He’ll get dogs abuse tomorrow off the boro fans at Wigan. He always does, it was the Stoke game a few years back which prompted a similar post from him on instagram.

He makes the point in a very misguided way though. And in a way that upsets genuine working class football fans and not the establishment he's trying to upset. They don't care about him disrespecting the country. The fans he faces week in week out do. And they are the people he upsets. Look, I'm not saying he doesn't have a point, or a right to say what he's saying but he's insulting the wrong people.

And I genuinely think the “country that pays his wages” thing is relevant. He has every right to be upset with a country he believes occupies his own country and has treat his “own people” badly. However he also lives in the country he proposers to hate: takes advantage of the services of that country and pays taxes to that country. He does this because he knows he can earn more playing in England than anywhere else in the world. If he feels that strongly about the country he’d take a wage cut and go to a country better suited to his politics. But he won’t. He’ll take the grossly inflated wages of this country whilst insulting it

what ever hes done there is no excuse for sectarian abuse, if a black player was abused to the extent he has there would be hell on.
The player has expressed political opinions and acted in a mannner that can be viewed as political as a footballer.

He wants the expression of others to be censured.

Its raising a double standard.

The Wigan Chairman has also come out and criticised the Sunderland fans for the chanting during their game vs Sunderland over the weekend.

Much as I dislike the Mackems, surely McClean is in no position to complain when you consider he's regularly stoked the fire over the years.
I wouldn't dream of abusing someone just because i didn't like/agree with their point of view. It's moronic.

expressing political opinion and abusing people are not the same thing

Fans are expressing opinions. The indivdual is subjected to those opinions because of his political views and actions.

No action has been taken against a footballer who has caused offence to others.

Would you want action taken against fans and clubs who boo players?

booing isn't abusing though is it?

He's from the UK, Wigan is in the UK.
Although to be fair, he's also a citizen of the Republic of Ireland. So depending on which government's laws you think have primacy, he's just as much Irish as he is British.
The anthem, flag and poppy aren't simply English, they're British, like us and as far as I know him, though he may now be an Irish passport holder.
I'm pretty sure he is, since the primary eligibility requirement to play for a country according to FIFA's statutes, is to hold the passport of the country you want to represent.

Riyad Mahrez.
Carrying a Palestinian flag in a Premier League match to show his support for the Palestinian people against Israeli Colonisation and Occupation of their land.
Is he a "terrorist", "stoking the fire", "not very bright".....?
