James cracknell to stand as conservative mp

It was more those who instantly dislike him all of a sudden because of his political stance. I just find that a bit uncomfortable.
I can't ever remember seeing him mentioned on here as a figure of hate before.

He stopped being a hero of mine some time ago, but If you can’t understand why people like myself would be further turned off by someone putting themselves forward to become a Conservative MP now, given the last few years, then I can only assume you are fortunate enough to have been largely insulated from the severe problems that many in this country are now facing.

Your suggestion that maybe he is standing so that he can do his bit to put right the wrongs of this current Tory Party and drag them back towards their ‘normal’ level of bastardry, is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion. Especially given he’s talked about how he now lacks empathy following his injury.
He’s just as likely to have spotted an opportunity to get in on the action of a corrupt party that seemingly has never had such a well rewarded bunch of charlatans, crooks and incompetent morons.
But we are all entitled to our own opinions and you may be right, and I may be wrong.

For clarity, I do not believe everyone who has ever voted Tory is a ****.
I do not believe that everyone who has ever stood to be a Tory MP is a ****.
I do, however, believe there is a reasonable chance that anybody choosing now as the moment to pin their colours to the mast and put themselves forward is probably a bit of an opportunist ****.

Unless he is running on a ticket stating openly that ‘I want to rid the party of it’s current corrupt right wing lunatic fringe and do my bit to simply return it to the traditional good old nasty party’, I’ll not be giving him the benefit of the doubt. I’ll stick to my assertion that he’s most likely, an absolute ****.

That’s really really really disappointing.
Once upon a time he was a real hero of mine. Turns out he’s just a ****.
Should have known, having been married to that complete conspiracist idiot Bev Turner.
I didn't know he was married to her.

The lad clearly has a screw loose, all that time in the boat, rowing at max, has clearly cooked his brain.

I don't think I've been sheltered, no.

If you have reasons other than his political preferences to dislike him then fair enough.

As I said, I had no knowledge of the general dislike for him before today.
Now I can see it is not only because of his politics but also because of the impact of his brain injury, the views of his ex-wife, his attitude regarding cycle helmets and his apparent lack of appreciation for the American emergency and health services.

You live and learn I suppose.

I think you are in a very small minority of people who are seemingly unable to understand why anyone would dislike somebody for their political preferences, particularly someone who is striving to associate themselves with the worst Government in recent history.

I think lots of people would accept that in some cases, that is actually reason enough to dislike someone. Occasionally there doesn’t need to be anything more beyond their political preferences.

Let’s not pretend it doesn’t work both ways. Some on the left will dislike those on the right, just because of their political preferences and vice versa. Plenty on the right really dislike those on the left, just because of their political preferences.

It’s just really really daft to continually try and paint it as a one way thing, like some folk repeatedly strive to do on here.

I get the dislike and suspicion, of course I do. And of course I feel that about some people myself.

I think it's the vitriol and, in my view, unnecessary abuse, name calling and hate I don't get.
OK, certain people might have earned that abuse and even play on it.
But in this instance does Cracknell really deserve prik, vvanker, tw@t? And his brain injury used to mock him?

I have seen people on here called scum and murderers purely for voting tory.

And it isn't just one way. People get insulted if they are deemed to be too 'far left' or a 'corbynite' or a 'starmer lover'.

There is hardly ever a debate or discussion which doesn't turn at some point. Decent informative threads don't last long.

That is what I don't understand.

A lot of it, the name calling is down to frustration, and it's 100% understandable in my opinion.

We've had 13.5 years of this joke of a government, with another 1.5 to come, which have got worse and worse. Anyone actively choosing to be siding with them, especially now, is actively making an active choice to support this mess. The only way this would make sense is either if they're just out for themselves, or have zero empathy for those worse off, neither of those is good for the public common man. He's even said himself he's got no empathy, seems an odd choice trying to be an MP if you can't empathise, it should be 90% of the job, as 90% of constituents will be a lot worse off than the MP. If he's got a brain problem, then he shouldn't be up for being an MP, or should be being told he's not going to be an MP.

Seems to me he's now finally been chosen 100% for his association with gold medals, and the time he got them is a time suited to the age of people who will have watched him win them (basically nobody under 35, and that generation don't vote tory). It's a vote grab for old folk, to think they're getting a "winner".

Being married to Bev Turner for 17 years, kind of says enough, can only imagine the sorts of conversations those two were having behind closed doors, and 17 years is easily a long enough time where those tow people have to be aligned to a large degree. Sure, I've made an assumption there, but it's more logical, than it is illogical.

Looking back, his main political experience seems to be that he was very much against the alternative vote, which was effectively him being against proportional representation or a circumstance which allows MP's to win seats with <50% of the vote. This seems a bad idea to me, and also seems like a bit of a Tory power grab.

The Tories are that bad now, that even former leaders (like Major) are saying how bad they've become, he's a saint compared to this lot.

So because some are frustrated they can call people , scum, murderers etc .......is this now really the new norm ?

Why are people getting hung up on a few lazy descriptive swear words? It’s not that a big a deal. I really wouldn’t take it too seriously….
Gosh, if us ‘snowflakes’ got our knickers in a twist everytime some right wing Tory called us ‘woketards’, commy, chav, workshy etc it would be a bit pathetic and childish.

Some of those on the right have absolutely no problem being/defending racists, misogynists, homophobia etc, but call a Tory a tvvat and it’s just really upsetting to them….
Why is it always those on the right who are the biggest snowflakes going?

Would never enter my head to call someone a murderer ,scum, tawt, etc ...do that in my mind lose the arguement , maybe just me !

Been on here on & off since the early days pre reg etc when cartman etc were the kiddys , seems very polariseed now to then

If you're talking about me I'm not on the right, and I dont believe I am a snowflake either.

I just find it hard to understand that you might be chatting away with someone about football, tv, movies, and so on.
They might not support Boro. Bit of banter follows.
They might not enjoy the same TV or movies. A discussion about them all happens
Then you find out they didn't vote the same way as you. Suddenly they are scum, selfish, killers, lazy, scruffy, whatever. Not just stereotypical insults but personal nasty stuff.
You might even express your wish that they were dead or had never been born.

That sort of response just seems OTT. And doesn't help solve any problems that are frustrating everyone.
Though those types of comments are seen on this board.

But that's just my opinion.
You crack on if you think it helps.

There are certain sports which (I would expect) to be a complete posho/tory field. Let's see, which sports could I never do at my old Almer Mata...

Anything equestrian, fencing, archery, rowing, shooting, sailing, I expect there are many more only open to our "betters".

No surprise to find that most of the them including Cracknel are rrseholes
We did a bit of fencing at Boynton, like.

These days they call it knife crime but it's basically the same thing.

Agree 100% with the sentiment. My ignore list on here isn't full of people I disagree with, but with people "on my side" who just throw insults around and won't take a second to question their own opinions.

That being said ... Cracknell is a "prik, vvanker, tw@t", irrespective of his Tory candidacy. He's a liar and a hypocrite, and we have far too many of them already

The loss of sea ice will affect your children and grandchildren guys, and all yoos can do is slag off Tory's ??
WAKE UP !!!
