James cracknell to stand as conservative mp

Yeah. I listened to a podcast a while back with them, long before I was aware of her as a presenter, and long before they split up.

Basically concluded that all Olympic champions are selfish as you basically have to prioritise yourself above your family etc.

Being totally objective, she’s decent looking mind isn’t she?
Lol yeah she is, I’ll give her that. As long as she don’t open her f’ing mouth

I’d be pretty surprised if Laura Kenny wasn’t a massive Tory. Based on what I know of her off camera.

I mean, I’d be amazed if 100% of the Boro squad and staff were Labour supporters tbh.
Starts from the top. Steve " I love James Wharton me" Gibson.

Reckon Bausor and Scott could be shy Tories too .....got that look about them......

If the only reason to hate him is because he is standing to be a tory mp.....how do you know he isn't still one of the good guys and will try and influence a wind of change in the party from within?
For all we know he might be conservative at heart but is unhappy with how the party is operating.

Better to see him in action before labelling him things like shill, prik and vvanker surely?

A self confessed person with no empathy as a Tory MP. I wouldn’t hold your breath.

A lack of empathy could be applied to a lot of MPs, regardless of party. I think it is in the nature of the beast. Especially as their responsibilities increase and the 'big picture' becomes the important viewpoint. More so than the need of individuals.

I reckon any politicians that do show genuine empathy tend not to be as successful at a higher level.

I hope we never see him as a MP thank you very much. I imagine it's a seat Lib Dems fancy nabbing.

When he was on Bear Grill’s island he described his brain damage sustained after being hit on the head by a truck while cycling. He said it ruined his personality and left him with no ability for empathy. I guess this move was inevitable.
Easy to see how he got the nomination then. Overqualified if anything.

You need to be pragmatic to get to the top absolutely and that can come across as lacking empathy.

Good leaders have empathy though. It's certainly not a drawback nor is showing it.

Johnson obviously didn't have any, but people were fooled into thinking he did and it was one of the reasons he was so popular with parts of the electorate.

Fair point & to explain my complaint against him as being a corporate shill, it is due to his campaign for compulsory cycle helmets following being hit by a vehicle while doing the Race Across America.

IIRC he was riding a bike, got hit by a vehicle which didn't stop & he was severely injured. His support team called an ambulance & did 1st aid, the ambulance got him to quickly, took over and rushed him to hospital, on arrival he underwent emergency surgery and subsequently remained for an extended period in intensive care. He made a full recovery bar the brain damage.

Following that incident there are a lot of things you could point to as a reason you survived
- immediate 1st aid from your support team
- rapid response from an ambulance
- close proximity of a hospital and highly trained professionals able to look after you

What you don't do, is say 'my Merida helmet saved my life, therefore everyone should wear a helmet'.

Helmet or not, he would've been dead in a ditch if his team hadn't been there. Dead at the side of road without the ambulance. Dead in the ambulance without the hospital.. etc
But he focused solely* on his sponsored bit of polystyrene as his reason for survival and pocketed a nice little earner out of everyone elses work.

(*did he also say because he was really fit & so had a high blood volume?)

And he only finally shut up about his victim-blaming pro-polystyrene nonsense when paparazzi pictures emerged of him riding without a helmet

Time will tell I suppose, but you have to be a special kind of idiot to choose to stand for a party that has destroyed everything good in this country.

Fair enough if your dislike for him was already there, I didn't know about any of that.
I suppose his belief in the helmet as a life safer might have been genuine. Although something like a campaign for free or cost price helmets for children might have shown that.

It was more those who instantly dislike him all of a sudden because of his political stance. I just find that a bit uncomfortable.
I can't ever remember seeing him mentioned on here as a figure of hate before.

Yes time will tell.
Hopefully he isn't a special kind of idiot but someone who wants to initiate change from within the party.
But he should be given the opportunity to show either way before being absolutely judged.

Because what we’ve seen of him in reality shows and in interviews………he’s a tw@t.
