James Corden's accent

You see, this is what I don't understand - what are you basing that on - think it says more about you than him tbh

,,,, and I can tell you from personal experience, he's a really nice bloke in real life
To be fair, he’s admitted himself that he’s been horrible in the past and there is plenty of evidence that he’s not a very nice bloke off camera.

It also goes the other way. I've known people who have lived away from the area and their accent has naturally softened over time.
Then if they meet somebody from Teesside the full Boro accent comes back with all its might. In fact stronger than it ever was.

For some reason he really irritates me. I remember watching him being interviewed once and it was so mawkish. He doesn't make me laugh at all and I think he is overrated as a comedian.
Remember the Patrick Stewart / James Corden awards ceremony 'banter'? I was never sure how much of it was scripted but it was an awkward watch.

Martin Compson who plays Steve Arnott in Line of Duty has an incredibly strong Glaswegian accent in real life.

I introduced John Barrowman to my godson and his family, who are all from Glasgow. John's accent immediately switched to Glaswegian. Talking to him about it afterwards he was completely unaware. His dad told me later that this was completely genuine. He grew up with a Glasgow accent and naturally slips into it if he's in the company of Scots and has no idea his speech has changed unless he stops and consciously monitors himself.

I first saw that on a documentary he did a few years ago. He visited his parents in Canada and immediately slipped into Glaswegian. He did the same thing recently when Lorraine Kelly interviewed him on her show.

Jason Statham must just flatly refuse, he can play an ex Chicago cop living in a small American town and still ends up speaking with a cockney accent.

Pat Butcher (East Enders) played by Pam St Clement. Chalk and cheese.
Was just about to post the very same example. Its amazing how actors can, well, act.

Plus, I think anyone who moves abroad for even a couple of years assimilates, it just helps you to be understood. My wife doesn't sound like a new yorker anymore and often gets thought of as Irish, Canadian and others. I know I'm in bother though when she gets full on NY with me. As soon as she's on the phone/facetime or whatever with the folks back home, she falls straight back into her NY accent. Its often the vernacular and parlance as much as the accent

I just don't find him funny at all. Squirm isn't the word for it. In my opinion he ranks alongside Noel Fielding, Lenny Henry, Eddie Izzard to name but three, as people 'purporting' to be comedians.

I have similar feelings about Corden, but Noel Fielding is a comedy genius, and Lenny Henry back in the 80's was incredibly progressive and alternative although I'll give you he's not aged his act well.

Lenny Henry was very brave to start as a comedian in a very white dominated environment like the working mens clubs. His actions paved the way for others to do likewise, so he has to be commended for that. Some of the early stuff amused me but not much tbh. I just don't find Noel Fielding funny at all. 'To each their own' as the saying goes.

The only sketch of Noel Fieldings I've found funny is the 'I am the Moon'. Hes also fairly decent on nevermind the buzzcocks.
