ITV 4 now, Auf Weidersein Pet

1st series, episode 2 on now. Loved this back in the day
I recently watched them all back to back. Great series.

I’ll never get over that Sunderland-Liege thing though. And them all referring to the Mackems as “Geordie lads” with full affection.

Rivals my @rse. 😁

Interesting that it was about British Working class blokes going to West Germany to find work, because there was no work for them in the UK and large worker shortages in WG - how things changed.

Just watched them all again
Absolutely brilliant series - including series 3 and 4
Love it and the 5th time I have watched it
Best bit for me is when Oz chins bid Baz in Ally Frasers office - make him chargehand- superb 😀😀

Just reading up on the first series and disappointing to learn that the location of the building site and hut was not in Düsseldorf at all but on the backlot of Elstree television studios in Hertfordshire, Borehamwood - now the site of Albert Square studio lot.

Maybe not, but did once spot this in a shop window in Dusseldorf, so they're not entirely ignorant of their role in all this.

It's interesting trying to spot the parts with Wayne / Gary Holton in the later episodes, as some were already filmed and some were standins (e.g when he was chatting up Ally Fraser's girlfriend Vicky in the bar and they bundle him up and carry him off and it's quite clearly not him, apparently a member of the production crew in a wi)

I always wondered if the original plan was for Wayne to have ended up with Vicky

Remember in the early Eastenders...Wilmott-Brown had a pub called The Dagmar.
