It's time this lot went....

Nope its a street house, a nice one, but you can play Kirby, but probably only during the day when the cars have all gone to work.
It’s Belgium, all the cars are likely to be at a standstill because they’ve crashed into each other

I KNEW that would be the response just knew it.

“oh they are scrounging off the state”

“actually no, they are earning their own money and paying their own taxes”

“yes but in an elitist field”
So it’s gone from not liking them because they are scrounging off the state to not liking them because they aren’t a steelworker or binlady.
I never said they weren't paying taxes. That was your definition of "contributing to society". Passing wealth from generation to generation entrenches privilege and ultimately limits the prospects of ordinary people. It is a pernicious logic that gives us limited access to positions like MPs, Judges and other positions of power and influence. Things like unpaid work for MPs as a "foot in the door" to politics, a middle or working class family cannot pay for one of their offspring to live in London for a year or more to gain access to these positions. Institutions like Eton churn out politicians born to rule to entitled (in every sense of the word) idiots increasingly unsuited to do so. Yet Eton is a "charity"?

We give grants to landowners to maintain grouse moors and PPE contracts to those in the loop.

Rotten England and at the very heart of rotten England sit the Saxe-Coburg Gothas...

Nailed it.

They probably do have a nice pad but that’s because her mum married an art dealer and runs companies in the arts, not because the queen gave her a country home or a wad of cash.

Funnily enough the article you linked seems to say that's exactly what happened. :ROFLMAO:

"Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Kent's first cousin, offered Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate as a weekend/country home in place of Coppins."

But they don’t own it anymore and haven’t for years. And that’s her grandparents not her parents or her.

Oway theFair, see the funny side. You specifically said the queen didn't give her mum a country home. Then it turns out the queen gave her nan a country home. Not quite the vindicating argument you originally intended it to be surely?

I see what you’re saying but she didn’t *give* them Anmer hall though, she leased them it. They sold coppins because of finances and the queen leased them Amer hall, where they stayed until 1989 when they bought Crocker end house where they live now it seems

And as mentioned, this is the 16 year old’s grandparents, her mother wasn’t given or leased a home from the queen and neither was she.

To be fair I'm sure anyone off any old council estate could get a internship at any reputable art dealer and decide that's the career for them. A loan of a million or so and off you go. They just need to work hard enough......

I think that’s largely because she is the queen of that generation, and the figurehead of the royals. Other royals haven’t been at the forefront and these people didn’t have the events unfold in their lifetime as QE2 was coronated in 53. The royal wedding was popular (despite those saying it wasn’t) and people had parties, a day off work and bunting out in my street. I can see any future coronation going the same way as it’s a chance to celebrate part of our nations identity and global interest is high.
Yes those days off do appeal to the general population and even an anti Royal like me sees them as a national celebration even if I don’t like the reason for it.

I agree that global interest appears to be sky high.

But everybody likes a bit of a soap opera and the royals provide a real life one don’t they?

No for me the problem is the monarch is not chosen, the queen was given her position as head of state by being born into the right family at the right time. What’s that all about in this day and age?
No she wasn’t she was given it after her nazi sympathising uncle decided he didn’t want to be king anymore and to abdicate with Wallace it was never the intention for Elizabeth to be queen.

Even worse then, she wasn’t even supposed to accede to the throne, she won the lottery.

Okay but in what way does any of that invalidate them being hangers on or benefitting from their inherited wealth or whatever it was you were arguing against earlier? You and ST were trying to imply they were just self made art dealers no? Maybe we could all be self made millionaires if we had a country estate to flog and one of the Queens spare houses to live in for 20 years? That's a good starting point, no?

You can always try and do something about it:
I've been a fully paid up member for a few years

After she left Gordonstoun (where she had art class), she was desperate to come to London and earn money, starting in 1984 at Christie's auction house in their Contemporary Department .
the opportunities given to those families that have wealth, power and influence handed to them. Lets be honest if she was born in a council estate or even to a modest middle class family, she wouldn't have had those jobs.

It's this but reversed 😂

"they're self made! It's not like the queen gave her mam a house"

"it says here the queen gave her nan a house to live in?"

"exactly it's not like it was her mam!"
