It’s Cattermole

Agnew was very harshly judged when he took over from Karanka IMO....he was on a hiding to nothing really.
We were already in dire straights and the position we were in the league' he had to try and win some games and change the mindset of an ultra defensive squad. We were very close to getting out of it but the damage had already been done. Performances improved for sure 👍

At what point were we very close to getting out of it?

He took over with us 3 points from safety.
That then became 5 points after his first game, 7 in his 3rd, 9 in his 6th.
Our one win under him against Sunderland left us 6 points from safety with 4 games left.
We picked up 1 point in those 4 games.

Performances were worse than they had been under Karanka.
We scored no more goals than we had before, but conceded more.
We shipped 4 goals against another relegation bound team in Hull.

No they didn't really, we were woeful. If there's any truth in this it is utter idiocy.

What on earth has Cattermole done to deserve this job? He's got a boro tattoo?

Do you think Head of Football Kieran Scott marched into Gibbo's office and insisted the only route forward is a local lad with three months coaching under 18's under his belt?

If Gibbo does this and it is anything other than a roaring success that sees us flying up the league he'll have burned most of his bridges to the glory days and the stadium will become toxic for him.

It was stick or twist for Agnew with a very poor squad, he twisted and it didn't quite work out, confidence was shot and he had an impossible task in the end. I watched it unfold with my own eyes and he actually did OK.
You can spout points and goals conceded all-day long but I doubt you actually went to the games so don't know how it unfolded....
Thanks 👍

Obviously bullsh it.

Otherwise Rico would've slammed £100+ on Cattermole being next manager at 4/5 odds on Skybet, meaning his odds will tumble big time...and yet the odds haven't changed.

(Hoping my theory is correct as Cattermole is a disaster waiting to happen)

Facts, points, league table all proved he was a disaster and I went to games that were treacherous. Far worse than karanka... but I think your fishing

Until it's officially confirmed I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's all rumours and hearsay.

I'll feel as disappointed as I did when Woodgate was appointed though if it actually happens. Gibson should have learnt from that mistake.

It wasn't treacherous at all, we actually had a go at teams under Agnew, something Karanka was scared to do. He played Negredo upfront and isolated like a lighthouse which was scandalous.
Agnew tried to get the ballers on the pitch to support him like Downing who was frozen out under Karanka, it was a breath of fresh air in a desperate season.....some of you have short memories or you didn't actually attend 👍

A fraud ? He's a respected coach with shed loads of experience, wash your beak out please Chicken 🐔
It's all very 'meh' it suggests to me he's the very epitome of a northern journeyman first team coach.......

In February 2002, Agnew moved into coaching, becoming assistant manager of Gateshead to Gary Gill.[3] Both he and Gill resigned from Gateshead after the playing budget was cut in early October 2002.[4]

Agnew continued his coaching at the Middlesbrough Academy and then joined Leeds United as reserve-team manager on 23 July 2003.[5] Agnew left the club to become assistant manager at Hartlepool United on 23 June 2005.[6] On 9 February 2006, Agnew quit his position as reserve-team coach at Hartlepool[7] before rejoining Leeds as under-18s manager.[citation needed]

He rejoined Middlesbrough as reserve-team coach on 23 January 2007.[8] He was promoted to the position of assistant manager on 7 July 2008, following the departure of Steve Harrison.[9] On 18 October 2010, he took over as caretaker manager at Middlesbrough following the resignation of Gordon Strachan.[10] On 29 June 2012, Agnew took up the post of assistant manager at Hull City.[11]

On 23 December 2014, Agnew joined Middlesbrough as assistant head coach, working under head coach Aitor Karanka.[12] On 16 March 2017, Agnew took over as caretaker manager at Middlesbrough, after Aitor Karanka was dismissed.[13] His first match in charge came three days later, as Middlesbrough were beaten 3–1 at home by Manchester United.[14] He was unable to save Middlesbrough from relegation after they finished 19th in the Premier League, remaining in charge until the appointment of Garry Monk on 9 June 2017.[15]

On 22 December 2017 Agnew was appointed the first team coach of Aston Villa.[16] But on 3 October 2018, head coach Steve Bruce, Colin Calderwood, Stephen Clemence, Gary Walsh and Agnew himself, were all fired.[17]

On 2 January 2019 Sheffield Wednesday announced that the club had appointed Steve Bruce as the club's new head coach from 1 February 2019. Clemence and Agnew would be in charge of the team in his absence until that date.[18] With the arriving of Bruce, Agnew would function as a first team coach.[19] In November 2021, Agnew followed Bruce out the door at Newcastle United, following the appointment of Eddie Howe and his backroom staff.

Bruce was appointed manager of Championship club West Bromwich Albion in February 2022, and was again accompanied by Agnew and Clemence.[20] They left with him when he was sacked eight months later.

Yeah and some of you aren't as good at this as you used to be, too obvious and too nonsensical.

Stick to the rose tinted Warnock self flagellation material and pulling yourself off in front of the bathroom mirror pretending you're a scout.

Just hope this his bulls**t. I would certainly think about renewing my season ticket for next season if Catterole is appointed the next coach. Gibson needs to get the next appointment correct and fast, we can’t have another Woodgate scenario were we’re fighting relegation and need to bring in an hold head to beat the drop.
