Is Tyson Fury a fraud?

Has just announced that he's picked to face Ajit Kabayel in December. Nearly all of his fights are against much weaker opponents who are not proven at world level. If he's actually as good as he's meant to be, why isn't he facing better opponents?

If you look at Fury's resume the only world level fighters he's faced are Klitschko and Wilder. Klitschko was coming to the end of career and Wilder was long known for picking easy targets himself. Why is Fury avoiding genuine contenders and picking German fighters? Ruiz is number 3 in the rankings - why not fight him? It comes at no surprise that Fury was actually dodging David Price back in the day.

He's fighting at the Royal Albert Hall. This is Fury's third German opponent in his last four fights. No one had heard of any them either in the UK or US.

I think he is a world class fighter and has proved it against Klitschko and Wilder. That being said, you cannot argue against the fact that he has fought his fair share of rubbish. Not having a swipe at the guy, i actually like him as a fighter but i challenge anyone to name 5 legit top level heavyweights he has faced in hos whole career.

Also, people need to stop with the Anti Fury pro AJ/anti AJ pro Fury nonsense. They are both great heavyweight British boxers ffs.

The first response to the OPs post had a parting swipe at Joshua in it when he hadn't even been mentioned!

Personally im glad he is fighting a bum. Gives us more chance of seeing Fury vs AJ next year. Although, i think they would still fight each other even if there were no belts on the line. Too big a fight not to go ahead i think.

It’s just a ‘keep busy’ fight, to keep him occupied until the AJ fight, likely next year.

Obviously he could have fought someone better but he’s so close to the AJ fight he doesn’t wanna to take to much risk as there is too much money on the line in the AJ fight, should he fight someone better and lose the AJ fight as a whole would likely be worth less, and as we all know, in the HW division, one punch can change it all.

No crowd, low interest. It’s just a tick over fight to get rid of the ring rust before a unification fight.

These tick over fights are a load of nonsence. The heavyweight division is stacked and there's loads of good fights Fury could have had if he's as good as he's meant to be. He's picking easy fights in the main. A real champion would take on the best in the division and they'd be all big fights. You'd make more money doing it that way as well. Wilder has been shown up as a punk and whilst Fury is much better than that, I think he'll continue to dodge the more dangerous fighters. A good fight for Fury would have been Michael Hunter or even Andy Ruiz, Joseph Parker or Oscar Rivaz. These are good fights that Fury would be expected to win that would still be proper fights. Instead he's picking plumbs at European level. It's an absolute joke.

Although I like the whole circus of boxing etc you’re right it’s really just a put on— but most of us knew this — if not watch McGregor v Floyd M.

I wouldn’t say he’s a fraud at all - he’s taken on the top men of his era, the issue people have with him and I tend to agree is when he has a warm up / turn over fight he picks really low calibre or unheard of opposition. In the long term if he goes on to beat Joshua then I don’t think it will tarnish his reputation, people only remember the big fights.

Yes like klitchko and wilder... I admit they are no Ruiz
Oh come on mate, you're better than that.

Wilder isn't an elite boxer, he's an elite puncher but a poor boxer. Klitschko, yes they both have an aged Klitschko on the record.

Beyond that neither have a legend, but Ruiz twice, Parker, Whyte, Povetkin, Brezeale, Martin are all better than Tyson's other opponents (bar Klitschko and Wilder).

AJ has much more depth on his resume. He also started fighting those guys just 2 years into his pro career. Two years in Fury was fighting Zack Page, who? A canadian journeyman with a record of W:21 D:2 L:33.
