Is Mbappe at the level of prime Messi/Ronaldo?

I know he’s won the World Cup and scored a hat trick in another final. Runner up in the CL but yet to win it. Loads of Ligue 1 titles. No Ballon d’Or as yet.

I guess we’ll find out when he’s playing in La Liga.

But what do you think?

Hard to compare because of the different leagues, the French league isn't at the same standard as La Liga or the Premier League.

Achieved far more than Ronaldo or Messi had done on the international stage at the same age, but so many of his domestic achievements will be caveated by the fact it's almost all in the French league or in the early rounds of the Champions League.

Could be better than Ronaldo was at that same age, but I don't think we'll get another player anywhere near as good as Messi was in a long while though.

Nah.

I was thinking this the other day, I used to look forward to watching Messi play. I can’t think of a footballer around now that captivating.

Dude is good, but at their level right now? No. Will be interesting to see how he performs against a way higher level of competition club wise than he ever has before; at least in a domestic league sense.

Considering at that point Messi had already win 3 Ballon d'Ors and especially his age 24 season if you will, had over 70 goals in all competitions in a very tough La Liga, Mbappe looks like a conference player in comparison.
Ok. Although Messi hadn’t won the World Cup or scored in two finals (including a hat trick).

Not saying that means he’s as good though. But I do expect that he’ll get some ballon d’Ors and CL titles under his belt soon.

I’d say he’s physically as good possibly better but technically and tactically not.

Well is Mbappe at 24 as good as Messi at 24?
At 24, Messi scored 53 goals in all competitions in 55 games. He had 17 major trophies already including 5 La ligas and 3 champions leagues. So, no, Mbappe isn’t as good at the same age. Still a brilliant player but nowhere near messis level

Ah we were getting the stats at the same time. You included that season where he turned 25, fair enough. Either way Messi was miles ahead at that age

CL titles way more likely than the Ballon at this time imo. As I said, dude is good, that is not in question. However, a lot of people are not gonna get too carried away praising him, myself included, until we see how he does in Spain. Now if he tears up La Liga as he did in France though, then fair enough.

Even if he is as talented, which I don't think he is, I don't think he'll have the same story of career. Messi seemed like he was motivated to win things but Mbappe seems like he's been prioritising the money.

No, he's a distance off both IMO

There's a clamour to compare anyone that's world class with the two of them, in an attempt to find the 'next' one.

Those two were generational talents

What will we find out when he’s playing in La Liga? He’ll win the league every year and score 30-40 a season much like he did in France. The opposition with the exception of 3 or 4 teams is hardly a big step up from Ligue 1, especially when you play for a team no one in the league can compete with.

I watched Messi play at Barcelona when he was 20 years old, he was on the same pitch as Xavi, Iniesta and Henry and he was head and shoulders above all of them. The Barca fans were actually laughing amongst themselves at times because it was an absolute joke how good he was.

I've seen most of the best players in the Premier league and seen most of the top players from the world stage like Zidane, Ronaldinho etc in the flesh as well and honestly Messi was levels above them all.

I'm not old enough to have watched Pele and Maradona but for me Messi is in the discussion with them two for the greatest player to ever play. Ronaldo isn't as good but it just shows how good he is/was that he even gets mentioned in the same breathe as Messi.

Mbappe is obviously a good player but at the moment he's miles off Messi and Ronaldo. I think he's arguably on par with someone like Thierry Henry at the moment.

Nowhere near Messi's level and never will be.

Ronaldinho after winning the Ballon d'Or “Best in the world? I’m not even the best at Barça,”
