Interesting Carrick comment re injuries

When asked about Forss and Rav.

Said the Rav one - twisted knee, nothing can be done.

But when talking about Forss he said something along the lines of 'it's not good enough' when talking about hamstrings and other such injuries.

I suspect the inquest is well underway. I wonder if the fella leaving for NY has anything to do with the discussions that have taken place.

But it is good he is acknowledging that there is an issue.

Was also good to see him berating the players today for not getting the ball moving quick enough near the end. I spy a maturing in his way of managing which can only be good.

Yeah I've been saying for a while now that there should be an enquiry into why we've had so many injuries.

I don't think it's just been down to bad luck as we had several players injured towards the end of last season as well.

Players maybe not communicating enough to medical staff when they have issues? I can’t help but think Forss has conditioning problems and therefore should have been managed properly. The whole MFC medical staff need to be either re-trained on fired as they’ve been completely useless this season.

When Jones was injured v Rotherham didn't he stay on at first and try to "run it off"?

This in a midst of an injury crisis.

I'm no expert but if a player pulls up feeling something wrong with their hamstring, I'd think the sensible course of action would be to take him off immediately. Not tell him to carry on running around with it to see if gets any worse.

Just suggests a bit of a overly casual/laid back culture towards it all within the club.

Pleased to hear it sounds like they're finally taking it seriously, but it's still surprising (and yet, in a way, typical MFC) that it's taken this long.

When he says it’s not good enough, is that aimed at the players or medical staff?

Can’t imagine it’s anything to do with a bloke who’s been with us for more than 20 years.

I'm also intrigued to see what 'let Loose' means over the next 8 games. I would like it to mean

1. Give players more freedom of exoression
2. Give some of the young players a chance
3. Experiment with some different formations.

It's a shame we cannot recall Brynn to see how he would get on. But I wonder if when some of the short term loans end those players might be given a chance in the team.

I'd like to think he'll just put out the team which he feels will give us the best opportunity of winning each game, at least until it's mathematically impossible to make the playoffs.

Once it becomes mathematically impossible then I'd be happy for him to experiment.

Whatever lessons were learned, just two years ago, seem to have been lost or forgotten, or discarded, with the change of manager.

Chris Wilder made pretty much the same observation, as Carrick did yesterday, when he first arrived at Boro.

He/we appointed Matt Prestridge, and our soft tissue injury record improved significantly.

I realise that mine is a remote, ill-informed perspective; but it does seem that we are back where we were just three seasons ago.

Lessons (not) learned

There has been discussion about whether this season's new training pitches have had any impact on muscular injuries.
All the pitches had to have new drainage installed and so were effectively rebuilt.

hes been here 20 years
this is the first time this has ever happened
its more likely training related, hard ground, too much running

Yeah I was told there have been some concerns over the training ground pitches.. they got the mix of artificial and real grass wrong so there is less give in them.

I didn't say they got the mix wrong. That is not what they have been saying. They are assessing whether adjusting to the new pitches has had short term implications.

Fair enough, I’d just heard that the mix in the pitches was being looked at as a potential issue.

I would hope the club will look at everything.
Pre-season conditioning, training, training pitches, intensity etc.
I am sure some injuries will have been unavoidable, but we have had a helluva lot and we need to consider any and all possible causes...why the heck wouldn't we?
Think it was 16 out at some stage of the season.
