Inter Miami v Real Salt Lake

I've seen plenty of Chicago Fire and DC United games. If I say Kei Kamara was the best player I've seen on the pitch there you'll get an idea of the standard.

I didn't mind watching the MLS when it was on Sky and before they changed the kick-off times. It was my late night nothing to watch slot alongside the A-League in the mornings.

Won't pay for the additional MLS pass and the free games are usually on too late most of the time. I did catch a bit of the game last night in the second half before the second goal. Salt Lake (I refuse to call them Real) seemed to have a lost of possession but no real creativity. Wonder if they up playing Crooks as just behind the striker or as the striker. Either way they didn't look like they had much of a focal point last night but looked tidish in possession.

I was thinking how cringeworthy some of the MLS team names are with Inter and Real prefixes at least being an attempt to sound like a legitimate sports team..

Looking at some of the names that stand out..

Chicago Fire - could possibly get in there its kind of a big deal..
Columbus Crew - nah visons of that Leeds badge redesign hahaha
New England Revolution - urggh its a bit naff innit
Philadelphia Union - bit of a german charm to it
Colorado Rapids - Austrian/Bucharest vibes
Houston Dynamo - Ukrainian influence perhaps?
Portland Timbers - it sounds whack.. but somehow it fits
San Jose Earthquakes - very naff urggh.. mind you.. that 90's cartoon the Hurricanes
Seattle Sounders - pfft wtf is a sounder> not a fan.. Seatle sounds like they would play footy.
Vancouver Whitecaps - its somehow makes it again.. urggh it kind of works dunnit

speaking about perspective and having a look at our own team name choices here in England.. Scotland have to be in a league of their own.. Queen of the South etc.. amazing names.. the results being read out become a little hypnotic.. almost like the shipping forecast! anyway.. what are we dealing with..

Brighton & Hove Albion - Albion.. old name for England.. old school naffness
Crewe Alexandra - who the chuff is Alexandra?
Plymouth Argyll - like the sweater? give me a break!
Nottingham Forest - can't REALLY have a pop at the MLS with this lot going all Robin Hood on us.
Tottenham Hotspur - URGGH.. proper cowboy time.. they defo belong in the MLS
Preston North End - just.. a direction
Leyton Orient - VERY exotic
Crystal Palace - yeah.. here we go.. we're showing our self up here with the disney lot
Aston Villa - bit of a Spanish timeshare option? you can see how the americans would get confused.
Sheffield Wednesday - and there we have it WEDNESDAY.. like off the Adams Family..

MLS have only really got like THREE proper dodgy team names there I would say

Columbus Crew, New England Revolution & San Jose Earthquakes.. compared to us.. I dare say they might be doing quite well.

TOT ING HAM HOT SPURS? JEEZ! and they play a Forest or do they get drawn in a cup against the sweater team?

I’ve seen a few games over in America.

Watched DC United play twice - against LA Galaxy and New York.

Orlando before they became an MLS side

Tampa Bay Rowdies
I had a DC United ST back in 98, they had Jamie Moreno, Marco Etchevvery, John Harkes, Ben Olson, Roy Wegerle they were a decent team, probably could have held their own in the mid-lower championship.

Although when they stunk, they stunk, I saw Jesse Marsch boss them one game and Mo Johnson score a couple, I think Paul Rideout scored a couple too. But then I even saw them beat Brazilian side Vasco De Gama over two legs. Happy memories

I saw Jaime play twice there. Met him on the second time I went as I knew a guy in the Barra brava supporters group.

Where do they get off callng them selves "Real". Inter is bad enough but wtf is royal about salt lake city?
I think they’re getting better tbf..

It would have been the rockin’ blue snakes or the hyper bear stripe pistols.

I like that they are not going daft anymore.

Did the NY derby (in Jersey) couple of years back. Surprised by the (lack of) quality on show. Plenty of decent technical South Americans but no idea how to play as a team. And no, Ashley Fletcher couldn't get in the Red Bulls squad at the time 😢

Ended up watching the second half with what I assume was the firefighters union, given their attire.

Can somebody explain how Miami and Salt lake where playing each other as I thought they were in separate divisions i.e Western and Eastern ,sorry for being a bit thick

All teams play each other home and away in their division and then play most teams from the opposite division once (they won’t play 4-5 teams).

Back in the days when they played in RFK?

Yes

I also went to the USA vs Scotland game before the 98 world cup at the RFK. We hired a yellow school bus, filled it with cases of beer down the isle and drove down from baltimore. We absolutely spanked that beer on the way there and finished it off in the car park. Before hitting the ground. We had a row of about 50 seats, and got the guy with the beet barrel on his back to stand their and pour 50 buds, once he had done we paid, then got another 50 buds, 3 rounds and he insisted he had to go serve other people. What a day that was, well what I can remember of it.

My best RFK memory though, is going to the 98 Tibetan Freedom Concert, Bestie Boys, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, REM, Chili Peppers one after the other.
