India not on the travel red list

Johnson not going now
This is unbelievable. As they were aware this country (NZ) spotted the issue 9 days ago and took inmediate action and barred fkights from entering. The incompetent Government in the UK meanwhile continued to keep India off the Red List for over a week and when they did decide to follow not only havent done so immediately but given advanced warning so more can rush back with false documents of negative tests. the UK Government are a laughing stock over here too.

Like I said you couldn't make it up could you

and after delaying putting India on the red list and not securing quarantine properly thay are now blaming the spread of the Indian variant on ppl not getting vaccinated

I read regionalised rules could be coming back. So its back to blaming particular towns and communities for this global crisis that governments can't get a grip of.

Posted on another thread:

In Parliament yesterday:

The truth is that when we put Pakistan and Bangladesh on the red list, positivity among those arriving from those countries was three times higher than it was among those arriving from India. That is why we took those decisions and, of course, they were taken before the Indian variant became a variant under investigation, let alone a variant of concern.

But apparently that wasn't true according to Sky's Conway:

In the period from 25 March to 7 April, some 5.1% of passengers coming to the UK from India tested positive for Covid-19, not far below the 6.2% level recorded by passengers from Pakistan, and comfortably higher than the 3.7% of passengers coming from Bangladesh.

This, remember, is for the period at the very beginning of April, two weeks before India was put on the red list.

And far from being three times higher than in India, the Covid positivity rate in Pakistan was only slightly above India; the rate of passengers coming from Bangladesh was considerably lower than that of those coming from India.

We can only just sit in a pub and drink. Yet we let flights from India fly in with no quarantine 😕

The mind boggles. Why is that whenever they make a decision it takes 5 days or a week to kick in? I remember them saying on a Wed or Thursday that 'we will go into tear 4 on Monday'. Why wait?

That said ive just read that the majority of hospital patients with the Indian varient have been offered and refused to have the vaccine. I bet the nurses are well made up treating them😕

Please tell me that’s not true now?

That quote in Parliament from the Government is not only a blatant lie, it’s also illogical. On April 9th New Zealand not only recognised the danger of passengers from India it completely banned incoming travellers from India. The Government here took some flak from right wingers for doing so but they were absolutely correct. Worth thinking about that again April 9th when travellers from India were recognised as a great danger so passengers originating from India were banned from flying to NZ but the UK continued to keep India on the green list until April 23rd!!! A full 14 days later.

Just incredible.

I was going to say that NZ is so lucky to have a brilliant PM in Jacinda Ardern at the helm.

However, luck plays no part as it was the NZ voters that were the brilliant ones having seen her massive potential
and her obvious love and passion that she has for her country and people, which is now being witnessed
by all on this planet.

She will no doubt go down in NZ history as one of their finest if not the finest.

It's really sad to see that the British electorate didn't have the same vision as the envied Kiwis and voted for a nutcase instead.

Here in Oz, not only did they immediately ban flights from India, they also stated that anyone coming from India and found to have lied about their travels or attempted
to get back here by way of flying in from another country after visiting India, would be either going to prison or hit with fines of up to 66 thousand dollars per person.

I know we all still face an uncertain future and likely more lockdowns to come but I know where I would rather be living at present and am sure you Kiwis do also.

This appears to be the actual timeline of events.

“The Indian variant was a variant of interest for the WHO since 16/04. On the same day 77 cases of the variant were found in England. On the 19/04 BJ announced India would be put on the red list, which happened on the 23/04”

Could you forward that to the tory cabinet, they seems to be some confusion

The fact that India was reporting 200,000 cases a day by the 16th should have been enough to have placed India on the Red List straight away - surely the figure of infected people in the UK at the time or what type of virus was involved was irrelevant.

2 flights from India arrived yesterday, and 2 more today.
From reports it appears there is no filtering system to separate passengers in the baggage, or immigration areas. Still.

According to someone from the airport authority once you
enter passport/ customs it becomes the domain of Border Force and becomes government responsibility. Their authority ceases at that point.
Although it’s been claimed the morning that BF are asking for airline staff to help out.

In a few weeks I’ll be coming back to the Uk. I land at Heathrow Terminal 2 where I hope I won’t be herded into a queue with flight arrivals from India who will need to go into MIQ. Because that would be criminally insane.

I'm in much the same boat - I have a flight booked for late July into terminal 5.
