India not on the travel red list

What? Thats crazy!!!!

Meanwhile NZ has this week barred flights coming in from India. This is as a result of despite producing negative covid test certificates too many were testing positive on Day 0 in MIQ. The implication being that many travellers from India were getting falsified negative test documentation.
 
So those flying into Heathrow from NZ and Australia will have to mix in queues with those from India potentially turning those from Covid free countries into disease carriers minutes after they land. Yep that makes sense.

It all makes sense don't you know....Gov have said there's plenty of border staff as well (another lie), the minute they open their mouth it's a lie at the moment.
 
I wonder what the threshold is for triggering a shut down of an entry point? Or forced quarantine?

In my head I would expect some spot testing on arrival- on the premise that you may get some indication of what may be coming into the country unchecked. I'm not sure what the logistics of this would be but I would imagine it would be in the best interest of the country.

I think the reality of quarantine hotels was another of showing to be doing something rather than implementing a system of use/ function.

Somebody said to me yesterday that only 1 in a hundred coming into country use the hotels. Is this correct.

I suspect the data will be well hidden. In a years time it will be noted "the government introduced quarantine for inbound flights to protect the country during the pandemic". The actual facts/ use of it will be all but forgotten.

Just in the same way that the government quickly acted to protect those most vulnerable in care homes*

*once the most vulnerable in care homes had already been hit hardest by outbreaks.

217k today, and the level of increase is absolutely astonoshing too, made our December/ Jan increases look like nothing.

They could outdo Brazil and the USA and hit 5k deaths per day :( Albeit they do have a billion more people.

They have to do something quick as they may have the potential for 500k new cases per day, possibly even more.

A lot of my indian collegues are now taking time off work with covid. It is a very worrying time in India at the minute.
 
It's dusgusting that it isnt on the red list and people coming in don't have to quarantine. Saw a civil servant say it would be politically embarrassing for Boris if we did it before his visit to India. So what, be embarrassed and save lives.

The Downing St response seems to confirm that. Adding that the Johnson visit is going ahead when questioned as to why it's not on the red list.

If easing of restrictions is stalled because of this, Johnson (and the patsy health advisors) mustn't be let off the hook.

India should be added to the red list
 
UK government monumentally failing yet again & now we have eased lockdown a new variant arrives from a country that in all honesty should have been on the red list from day 1 of the list honestly you couldn't make it up could you?
 
One recent flight from India had 50 people infected, and yet we will wait til Friday.
