In celebration of dark ales

I'm awaiting delivery of some of Black Sheep's Hazelnut and Salted Caramel Imperial Stout, amongst some others. Will let you know what it is like.

I enjoy stouts, porters and dark ales. Guinness is a firm favourite but after you've tried it in Ireland you feel like you are constantly comparing it. Some say it's a myth but I've never tasted a drop of it so good as I did in Dublin. Over here you get good pints of it but a lot seem to have a strange chemical aftertaste. I found Murphy's on draught in London a couple of years back and it was so good. Very difficult to find over here. I may need to venture to Cork some time.

I've really gotten in to milk stouts. You get so many variations of stouts/porters now. Coffee, Chocolate, Bourbon or Rum infused. I like IPA'S and a decent lager now and again but if I see a stout on draught in a micro pub, that is where I'm heading.

I love a good IPA, and there are some cracking ones with sharp citrus flavours, but I think stouts and porters cover a whole different palette range. I hope this side of craft beer continues to expand over the next few years.

Are there any wholesalers locally that stock decent beer? Supermarkets are selling the same usual ales.
Morrisons have a decent craft beer section, better than most supermarkets. But your best bet is online, some good offers for most beer clubs.

Cheers, I'll have a look. Three brothers Brewery in Stockton are selling packs of 12 bottles from the brewery. Do a nice Porter and Ruby ale

I love a decent pint of Guinness but these flavoured stouts go in the same category as fruity ciders and alcopops for me.

It's stout so you're supposed to be able to taste the burnt hops or whatever it is, not a liquid cheescake.

You don't and won't want to be tasting burnt hops, or grain for that matter.
Adding fruit etc to flavour different beers isn't something new , its been going on for hundreds of years

Enjoyed two of those this evening. Still the best IMO. Riggwelter is nice too, and a nod to Robinsons Old Tom, if you can find it
Old Tom has always been in Sainsburys (haven't looked recently). It used to say 'best beer in the world' or such like on the label, but not now.

Porters, stouts and lagers have been my choice of drink since I started having a pint. Far more choice these days but the draught beats what we're now limited to by a long way.

I'm going through a brown ale stage where bottles are concerned.

Yes, found it in Sainsbury's after someone else mentioned it earlier. Lovely drop, but McEwans Champion is right next to it in the shop and that is my current favourite.

Looking back through this thread it seems a few people have tried Titanic ales before. Just found this and thinking I might give it a go/

The other option is I buy a beer52 box
