In America do they still use the Wells Fargo stage coach for mail?

I placed an order on the 8th of this month and when I have looked at the tracking order tonight it's only reached Chicago IL International Distribution Centre (or Center in America), which is just over 1,000 miles. I think they might have had trouble with Indians on the way.

I am not in any rush for this package, but that's roughly just over 50 miles per day and I am sure the pony express can go faster than that.

On a serious note, does anyone who normally buys, receives or sends to and from America have any idea how long items normally take?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I bet Charley would have got it there quicker. Charley Parkhurst, aka: One-Eyed Charley, Mountain Charley, Six-Horse Charley (1812-1879) – Parkhurst was a female tobacco chewing, cussing, gambling California stage driver.

I bought a guitar from the states a while ago. It took ages to arrive and when it did I had to go and pay a **** load of import tax on it before they'd hand it over.

I get my regular medication by mail order. A prescription that was shipped in the middle of December eventually arrived a week ago. They did ship a replacement that arrived sooner. One of the problems is that Trump replaced the Postmaster General with a lackey who cut costs...

When we were living there letters and parcels to/from the States took forever and were expensive. Internal mail would take up to a week.

One of the original Wells Fargo stagecoaches is in their HQ in San Francisco.

I usually find, as a sender, things take an age to cross the states, going through multiple distribution centers before even leaving the country.

Conversely when people sent us stuff from England it would arrive pretty quickly.

USPS (the US postal service) are dreadful. Parcels were taking weeks to arrive before Christmas (often delayed with the status "package refused by customer" when there hadn't even been a delivery attempt). Yours is at O Hare airport so has hopefully navigated the slow part through the US and will be with you soon!!

They also have the most unhelpful, rude and arrogant staff you could ever imagine manning their post offices.

Especially around tax season, when they amplify their distaste for their customers.

Chain of banks aren't they? I've noticed a few on my travels and it always raised a smile.

Name dropped by GZA in Killah Hills 10304 as well.

I wouldn’t mind being a US postman mind, they don’t even get out of the van, was driving behind one once and he was just driving in the gutter and sticking his hand out and dropping post in the little boxes they have at the end of their drives.

There is definitely something strange going on with international post these days. I have had letters and packages arrive in reasonable time and others delayed by weeks to and from the US, UK and Canada. Sometimes the delay is here in the US, sometimes in the UK but probably the biggest delays are from Canada Post. I echo what Centralscrutinizer said: the UK has become much stricter about collecting import duty the past couple of years. So much so that I have given up sending things to my mum and dad and instead order them online in the UK (for clarity I live in California). I think this extra international shipping scrutiny may be part of our international shipping problems. But why this would apply to things like Christmas cards (as it did this year), I do not know. TLJ... I am not so sure that all post office employees are terrible. Like most things - it depends which office you go to and which person you speak to. I have found some USPS staff to be very helpful and professional.... others not so much.

We had the opposite, we lived in a apartment block with two towers each with 14 floors and she had to open every single locked box and put the post into each of them.

She used to be in our post room for at least an hour or so, and I always thought what a nightmare that would be when one of the most appealing bits of being a postie is the open air.

Mainly the employees of the UPS in the Pine and Polk and Sutter street branches in San Francisco.

Miserable to a man.

Only in the country - our posty stops at the end of the Street and walks it before going back to his van.

The little van jeep/van things they drive are all right hand drive to allow them to do so too.

I heard a quiz trivia question ages ago about which company owned the largest fleet of right hand drive vehicles in the world, and the answer* was the US post office.

* I have no solid facts or research to back this up.

I recieved a letter for the previous owner of our house. It was from her GP and said they were sorry that she had missed an appointment and would she ring to rearrange. We have lived here 25 years and she emigrated to Australia

That beats me - we've been in this house for more than 20 years and we still get mail for the people who retired to Florida.

I got an e-mail from UPS this morning stating the following 'Your item arrived at an origin transfer airport in O'HARE INTERNATIONAL, CHICAGO, UNITED STATES on February 5, 2021 at 4:41 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.'

I honestly though it had reached this point on the 27th Jan. The old pony express isn't doing too well.
