Improved offer for Goode made

Ideally we need a left footed central defender. Hall is right footed, Goode is right footed and Fry too. Ayala was right footed (Fry played on the left side of the centre on his ‘wrong’ foot). Gibson is left footed.

However I can’t see Gibson coming here, Norwich have more money
 
I don’t get it with Gibbo.

people on here treat him like he’s either a) any other footballer that’s been through our doors with zero loyalty to the club, to come back

or b) only has a career because of Uncle Steve

the truth is he was a great captain and core of one of our best defences (yes even in the PL) and left because we got offered a great deal post relegation and had England aspirations.

fair enough it hasn’t worked out (I’ve had both career moves and business opportunities that went the wrong way), but given time to get up to speed would be a huge asset to the squad.

I also think he has more loyalty to this club than most fans. There’s a very good chance that he ends up becoming if not whole, then part owner in the future
 
I don’t think anyone is questioning Ben s love for Boro , the problem is we are on a budget and Ben would take a big portion of it .
It is what it is as Mogga said , those at the top will decide where we spend our limited funds .

That’s just it though. A poster on this thread was questioning exactly that. Hence the backing for Gibson from myself and others

I give you PSG and Las Palmas with a Jese thrown in. They got far less than from Boro deal. Players hold the cards. Burnley will want something rather than nothing. It needs the player to dig in mind.
 
Am I only one thinking if woody was after Goode. Fans would be screaming bola and Browne weren't good enough, league 1 is their level. I'm not convinced this lad is good *excuse pun) personally. We need a centre back that's done it at champo level or above, not another project that takes 2 years to train up.
 
How can you call him a failure when he's only started 1 premier league game for Burnley? If he'd played 50 plus games and been poor then maybe,i would love to see Ben back,great for us and someone who genuinely wore the shirt with pride.

To be fair to Juno, Gibson has kind of flunked at Burnley. However that sounds like it's more some sort of weird relationship break down, than totally footballing reasons.

Juninho's other point about moving on, not back is fair too. For Gibson's costs we could probably get a couple of very decent players in.

All that said, if B.G did come back, it would be pretty good to see him playing for the Boro again!! :)
