Immunisation Cards

Seems to be a talking point on this mornings news. Gvt standing firm and saying they are not introducing an immunisation passport, though Quantas and others saying they will require proof of immunisation. I think whether we like it or not certain organisations will put such a policy in place. I have no qualms with it, seems sensible.

I have no qualms about it or needing to be immunised to do things BUT only when the vaccine is readily available to everyone. Being told you can’t go here or there until you are vaccinated whilst not actually being able to get the vaccine isn’t fair. It’s not acceptable that all the elderly and vulnerable can get back to normal whist the rest of us have to sit at home, lose our jobs and livelihoods etc. We’ve already sacrificed enough. Unless they make it law plenty of airlines won’t insist on vaccinations to fly, our industry is on its knees and plenty of airlines will break ranks in order to just survive.

It looks like an appointment reminder to me, which is absolutely fine.

But, I am very against the use of a card for the use you describe. It could take years for everyone to be immunised and well how is that fair? 🤔

I don't think that is the way it will work. You could argue that once the vulnerable are immunised then we can start to lift restrictions to something like "Tier 1" under the current arrangements/rules. As for Immunisation Cards perhaps something like a Visa in your passport? I guess that there will be a paid way to get the vaccination for those who wish/need to jump the queue?

Yes, I agree it has to be available to everyone.
If people step forward and take advantage of the vaccine that doesn’t need to take forever.

A line will have to be drawn at some point.

Not just me. Look at all the people who have lost their jobs, who have taken pay cuts, who have lost their homes, relationships, youngsters who have missed out on education, the 15% of 16-24 year olds who are now unemployed, my colleague who took his own life after being made redundant, peoples mental and physical health, people who now have untreatable cancer or lost their lives unnecessarily to other illnesses. The list is endless and to allow the old and the vulnerable to go back to normality whilst everyone else has to keep sacrificing would be rubbing salt in the wounds. The wealthy old people everyone sacrificed so much for are going to have to pick up the tab for this because they are the only ones who haven’t been hit financially, their final salary pensions and every increasing property values keep rolling in regardless.

Not going to apologise for thinking of myself and my son any more, couldn’t really care less what you think tbh, if anything it’s made me more determined to put myself first, it’s every man for himself, this has shown me that more than ever. After taking a massive pay cut to try and keep my job, after nearly being made redundant 3 times and having a nervous breakdown, after missing out on time seeing my son grow up, after the strain it’s put on my relationship I’m not interested in giving up any more. If it’s a choice between my son losing out or someone else then I don’t really fancy their chances and I’m not really interested tbh.

I can't disagree with you but plenty will on here.

Everyone gets older and probably gets a few illnesses.
Perhaps they may get a bit of compassion then too.

We wont have restrictions this extreme until we all are vaccinated though, yes restrictions will still need to be in place for likely most of next year but its not like we will be in full scale lockdown until everyone of us has a vaccine.

We all still have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable though and that will need to continue

You little man.

Its not the airlines. There are some countries around the world that have been very responsible and kept their levels of corona to a very low level compared with Europe and the USA.
They have done so at great loss to their tourist industries but have protected their citizens and kept their death rate to the order of 10's not 10's or 100's of thousands.

Should they now open their borders to a potential wave of corona infection. Absolutely not.
And waving some flimsy card which looks like it could be knocked up by anyone with a 50 quid printer is not on.

So I would actually go further. Some electronic card that can be traced to a worldwide central database.
Exceptional times call for exceptional measures.

But countries can insist on proof , real proof to issue a visa

As someone who has lived in many different countries in the middle and far east, in the late sixties, early seventies, I remember having a immunisation card and having to show it at immigration. If needs be again I'm okay with it.

On SKY this morning the Minister basically said we would have some kind of 'passport'. He didn't use that word because Gove said 'no' last week.

I work internationally in the oil and gas sector and we often have to show proof of vaccination, malaria pre-treatment, blood-test results etc. to get access to certain countries or workplaces. I have no issue with this at all. But it should be something official and traceable.

I'm expecting to have to be vaccinated early doors as oil companies and offshore companies will make it a pre-job requirement prior to being allowed onboard their platforms or vessels.
