If you booed Connolly

A Confidence player who has been really struggling to get his career back in an even keel. He’s come to boro wanting to the best he can, everyone he goes onto that pitch he puts a shift it! I’ve said before you don’t score premier league goals by accident. He’s 22 years old and already said that the stuff that Brighton fans were saying about him had really effected him. Trolls slagging him off on instagram are a disgrace. I made sure I cheered him on today, he’s had a few little pieces of magic that if they had come if would have been jaw dropping!

Absolutely gutted for the lad today, the game finished and he was in a tigger state.. tore his shirt of and bolted down the tunnel. Visibly upset. Now a team just after winning 2-0 at home, keeping the playoff dream alive should be going on that dressing room and saying we can do this lads!!

Instead you have to console a teammate about being booed onto the pitch.. a 22 year old lad. Gutted.

Not sure how any of our players felt about a large section of fans booing taking the knee either. Talk about motivation!

On what should be an exciting build up to an end of season finale full of twists and turns and drama..

I’m left deflated and a bit ashamed of our fans. Disappointing eh

Good post newy, its well out of order. Apart from the fact you'd have to be thick as mince to do it (assuming you want Boro to win. I'm sure some of our fans prefer to see us struggle so they can have a good moan) people forget players are human beings.

What exactly is his crime? Not scoring goals and having a "celebrity" girlfriend? Pretty sure he's not deliberately doing the first. It's bullying and anyone booing him should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

I'd get it if he was Marlon King or a player clearly angling for a move and phoning it in. But the lad wanted to come here and as far as I can tell has given his all. It just hasn't happened for him, but not for the want of trying.

Not just Boro fans who do this of course. I get all sorts of ***** coming up on social media about Harry Maguire. It's absolutely relentless. Videos about how terrible he is etc. He might be (I couldn't care less) but it makes me very uncomfortable. It's basically a concerted hate campaign based on nothing more than the fact he's not playing well. People have gone on to suffer serious mental illness for less.

There were fathers with kids all booing together near me, i was perplexed and made my feelings known, utter disgrace. Connolly has done nothing worse than any of our other forwards, the only thing i can think of to explain it could be the dimwits that believe everything they read in the sun
Back the lads that wear the badge. UTB

His crime is we have fans who are thick as fcuk. Brighton fans slagged him off something rotten and rather than our fans taking him under our wing and seeing the results of a confident talented kid.. online fans/podcasters and the like have jumped on the bandwagon. He’s not the finished article, he’s suffering a loss of form and he’s clearly dealing with external issues that have effected his professional career. A lot to deal with at 22. The tattoo he got of himself ‘making it’ as a footballer a clear sign he wants to get back on track. When he arrived he wasn’t fully fit and he’s worked hard to overcome that. Aaron Connolly is the epitome of the sporting underdog, rejected, bullied.. but very very talented. I’m surprised more boro fans don’t see a bit of themselves in this kid! Give this lad a song and he’s a 1 in 2 striker at Championship level.

Everyone has an option, everyone have a pop at players weaknesses, too slow, clumsy, soft, one footed.. all stuff they can work on in training. Connolly’s biggest thing is his confidence..

I must admit - whatever your thoughts on a player or the team, booing is just bang out of order. Thats the kind of thing Chelsea fans do.
I havent booed any player or Boro team. And over 40 years I have seen a lot of shyte.
Singling out a player for booing is the worst - that could get the backs up of all of the team and have them fearing playing at home. It s a modern thing - I couldn't even imagine it happening at Ayresome.

I'm pretty sure there was nowhere near a large section of fans booing taking the knee tonight, all I could hear was applause from the east stand. And there wasn't enough applause to drown out a substantial amount of booing. I don't ever recall a large section of our fans booing taking the knee at any stage.
There was a large section of the South Stand booing. It’s totally embarrassing and needs sorting out. Going back to the Chelsea game ‘just a town full of rent boys’ FFS - what on earth are we playing at!?!

There was clapping.. but the booing was significant. Much greater than the clapping, as a player coming onto the pitch you might not even think that the claps were for you.

I shouted in support of him.. so at least he knows newy loves him!
Sat in the NW upper and the booing for players taking the knee could be heard clearly there, soon drowned out by clapping though.

Saying that bewy we had a section of fans slag him off on here after ONE game

Fair enough its all about opinions FHS give a player a dozen games, or so, before you judging him to be useless
I would think players & managers will read these forums

The expression ‘boo-boys’ is very accurate. Those with a mature, considered, empathic, knowledgable and mature understanding of football… of psychology… of teamwork would allow the team and management to make the decisions they see fit. Our role - as ‘supporters’ - the clue being in the terminology - is to support those decisions - to support those players and to also accept that the players are human beings.

I remember a not dissimilar attitude towards Bolo Zenden during his first season with us funnily enough…and towards Massimo Maccaroni pre-UEFA cup heroics and does anyone remember a certain Craig Johnston??? You may like to watch the attached clip…

Booing a player will only achieve a negative outcome. Booing a player who is waiting to come on to the pitch to play before even kicking a ball is unforgivable, childish, cowardly behaviour. The people who did that were definitely in the East stand too. A low blow to the team.

I have no issue with people critiquing performances after a game if done reasonably and fairly. We should be shouting and cheering support or phrases to lift players who look flat when at games, messages to build confidence.
I heard some idiot shout ‘yer Shiiiiite’ to Mcgree when a pass was intercepted. I mean how thick are some people.

i thought the support last night was as poor as I have seen it since Woodgate was in charge. It was full of people who must have lost a £50 note and found a 10p piece instead. The atmosphere was as flat as a tack.

I've criticised the guy on here let's be clear the loan has been a disaster for him and the club. However I couldn't bring myself to boo the guy, his effort has been good it's just not worked. If anything I would lay more criticism at the club for signing him and then for wilder continually picking him when he was so out of form.

Spot on - I was taught very early in my business career that my job as a manager was to be confident to stand up and make my case strongly and to not be afraid to counter the opinions of my leaders. However, once the management group had made a decision, then my job was to publicly support it (even if I disagreed) and do everything I could to make it work. It's a bit like the Connolly situation. People can absolutely grumble if they so wish, but once our management team have asked him to do a job on the field, supporters have to wholeheartedly get behind the decision.

Far too many people made up their minds about him before he had even signed. Personally I think his attitude cannot be faulted, he has worked his socks off, has never hidden or sulked - he is a young lad who is trying his best to make an impression and to get his career back on track. Has he been an overwhelming success? No, but it isn't through lack of application or effort. Football is a small world, players talk and word gets around - would he be likely to recommend us to a mate who we wanted to sign after the way a small section of our fans have treated him?

Ive never understood why Boro fans ever boo any Boro player. Stewie Downing springs to mind after he had just come back off England duty he got boo'd when he came on to play for his country then he got boo'd at the riverside playing for the Boro the very next game I couldn't believe it & people wondered why he was so quick to ditch us for Liverpool the season after.
I can also remember standing in the Holgate too & someone every home game used to shout loudly at Bernie whenever he came anywhere near "Slaven your a bag of shyte" even if he had scored.
Regardless if you like a player or not if they pull on a Boro shirt you give them 100% support if they play rubbish by all means express your opinion after a game but never before they've even kicked a ball its bonkers🤪🤪

No matter how good or bad a player is, if he's trying his best... booing a player wearing the shirt of the team you support, is pathetic.

I hope he gets another chance at the championship next season and gives us a good beating (as long as we still get promoted).
