If Keir Starmer is Prime Minister later this year, what can we expect from Labour to make this country better?

Print more money

Of course, where do think governments get their money.

Richard Murphy:

“ Darren Jones MP, Labour's shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, has just said on ITX that the government has "maxed out the government's credit card". The crass stupidity of doing so when the government has no credit card, no credit limit, and can always create the money required to pay its bills is really quite staggering”

Exactly, they're taking us for fools. Meanwhile Rachel Reeves s going with "My mum taught me how to balance the books at the kitchen table.

Looking at the council tax thread, there's lots to be said that council tax needs reforming. I think it was Andy Burnham who proposed a trial in greater Manchester where the NHS was also responsible for adult care to provide a joined up service. I think the trial was cancelled before it happened, but this seems like a very sensible suggestion.
Childrens' and adult care costs are becoming unmanageable for councils and also disproportionately affect areas that are struggling. As this is all a statutory requirement it should be managed and funded at a central government level.
This would free up resources for the council to provide local services and would provide better correlation between council tax paid and services received / local amenities available.

Hopefully he can stop bitter, disaffected, politically homeless ex-Labour supporters chatting sh1t while there's a Boro game on. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

You're getting worried now, aren't you? More and more people are finally waking up and seeing Starmer for the turd that he really is. Took them long enough. I've been saying it ever since the membership were stupid enough to vote for him as leader. I was right about him. I'm always right. That's my curse.

TBH though if Labour get a thumping majority who knows what they will be able to do? There could be all sorts of reforms. Rwanda booted out, some of the more draconian laws that the Tories have introduced repealed, a quicker move to net zero than we are currently experiencing which hopefully will drive growth, more workers rights, a more proactive will to bring the railways back in house when the contracts end, and end to the culture wars etc etc.

I also HOPE that with such a majority we would see things like capital gains and wealth taxes at least discussed for a second term. Or if the public finances are so screwed something done about it this (Labour) term. They will have to do something to scrape some money together.

I would presume something would have to be done about LA funding and funding the care sector. If I was Reeves, in my first budget, I would be borrowing to invest.

And I would get a Blur drummer to stand in the election………………

Brexit (reversal), NHS, Migration (illegal), Economy, Services.

As mentioned earlier - no policies are announced so really - nobody has a clue.
