If Keir Starmer is Prime Minister later this year, what can we expect from Labour to make this country better?

An end to the government dog whistling for racists

Fewer lies, particularly the brazen "black is white, I'm treating you like a idiot" ones.

Decisions made based on evidence and data, not batshit crazy ideology.

No more culture wars or blaming the public sector for the government's own failings.

More grown up relationships and diplomacy with other countries, particularly the EU, and a Foreign Sec that's seen an atlas.

Ministers appointed more on merit and capability, not based on "loyalty" or keeping fringe groups in the party quiet.

I'm no fan of Starmer, but expect all the above will happen, which will be a massive improvement, given the pathetically low bar, even before we see their policies. (which l expect will be timid/underwhelming but still an improvement on "bleed public services dry and give it all to our mates").

An end to the sleaze that has pervaded this government would be a very good start.

Fairness and integrity across the board would be a sound foundation for governing the country.
I think this. There's very little they can do to turn the economy round. The damage has been done and the Tories have dug us into a massive hole. The best we can hope for is to put systems in place to ensure that the rampant corruption and theft of public money don't happen again. Not sure how we can turn around the ridiculous, divisive, partisan and unthinking politics we have at the moment but hopefully we will

The latter part of this one I'm not sure about, he's already sided with a fringe group on his way to the leadership, to keep them quiet perhaps?

👀 are there two Keir Starmers or something?
Suppose I should have said "exclusively on loyalty". It will of course play a part, as it does for all governments. Your Cabinet has to toe the government line to an extent.

But he's equally not going to put people in it completely inept like Dorries or Braverman. And I don't think he'll be swapping them around every 6 months for ***** and giggles like this lot do.

That's the Labour Party throughout their history.

A lot will depend on the size of the majority I guess.

I think he'll be competent; which will be a massive step forward from the idiots we currently have in charge.

I hope he'll also tell the truth to the population as to where we are and the things that will help/hinder the country recover.

Ah, the old blue/red divide eh? Nothing in real terms ever changes. They are all tories who are self serving scum. When an MP comes along that can deliver real change, they are destroyed by a sophisticated establishment/Isreali right wing “think tank” (gnarf gnarf).

These elites, hand picked decades before are pure evil. It is their job to gaslight you, so you don’t follow the money. The insanity of modern western society? The venture capitalist scum, who created the bank crash, which created austerity? By a hostile banking take over? Is our PM.

Say goodnight to the folks Gracie.

This budget has shown why Labour have to keep their cards close to their chest.

The Tories have zero integrity or humility, they will either blatantly steal any Labour policies or undermine them.
This type of thinking is just petty political b***ks. If another party implements a policy you want to implement it is a good thing surely. The people benefit from it. All this tells me is that people are more interested in winning than they are in having policies that helps people. If the Tories felt forced to implement Corbyn's manifesto it would be a massive win. This exact situation is why the Tories will be winning whether Starmer wins or not because for the most part he's just going to carry on doing things that Tories agree with anyway.

No it isn't, the Tories are stealing ideas as they don't have their own, they don't care if it benefits the average person, they only care how it can benefit them.

Implementation matters more than the policy itself (40 new hospitals, more nurses, more police?), stealing a good idea doesn't make it a win for the people if it's done purely to undermine the opposition.

Most policies require political will and direction to achieve them, the Tories are only interested in a headline. Corbyn's policies in the hands of the Tories would be a disaster as they would want them to fail to protect their ideology.

No expectations of anything other than the worst, most criminally corrupt and incompetent government in our lifetimes gone. Starmer is the political equivalent of a balloon with a face drawn on, but it doesn't matter. Whatever you need to vote to defeat this egregious cabal then vote that. But above all vote.
