I need a little help seeing the positive.

We may offer Ayling & Howson contracts, but given the model, they’re both the wrong side of 30 and do not represent resale value. Is that good business sense?
There’s no transfer fee so, yes

I also think we’ll sell McGree & Forss if they don’t sign extensions, and Hackney, RVDB & LL if the price is right.
We won’t sell all those, we might only sell one. But let’s just say we do sell them all what £50m plus the 16m from Roger’s, 2m from crooks and 5m we didn’t waste after failing to get Tom cannon.

Wed have 70m+ to spend, which would give us more money to invest than any para ch Ute payment club.

Football is so transient who knows what team we'll have , the start of next season. Never mind looking @ the rest of the championship.
Pressure is now on Carrick to deliver next season.
Btw Sheff U looking @ Ayling already.
I thought Sheff U were bust. Even allowing for parachute payments they are surely a club in a mess. Am not so sure a player is going to choose them over us.

Also - for argument's sake Ayling lives in Harrogate. That's an hour's drive from Hurworth. It's 2 from Dore, where Sheffield United train. He won't want to move house!

The biggest positive thing I take from this season is how Michael Carrick has the ability to motivate, blend and organise winning teams from bits and bobs, benchwarmers, kids and hired hands (loanees)

His is the first contact I want extending and improving.

Of course it was also positive to see how well some of those players could perform in the first team.

Agreed as much as recruitment has been good carricks ability to develop players has put millions on the value of players for the club. Latte being the latest

There is every logical reason to be optimistic given the last 10 games.
I’m not tho - logic doesn’t work for some footy fans 😂

I think the reason it's difficult for some people to be optimistic is because of what happened last season.
We were excellent from December-April last season. Some of the best football we've produced in 15 years. It's been nowhere near that level this season. A large part of that is down to our recruitment strategy. It's entirely reasonable to be apprehensive about the summer and how it will go.

There's more reason to think we will sell one or two top players than not do that. As that is in line with recent transfer windows.

last summer window we needed to replace our goalkepeer, centre mid, our no 10 and striker, amongst other positions. Those are 4 incredibly important positions and the spine of the team.

Whilst we will still need to bolster our squad, notably centre Mid, this summer, the importance of the positions we need to improve and the number of positions aren't quite as vast

I've gone on record saying that I think we'll sell this summer and despite all the FFP talk, I haven't changed my mind.
I really hope I'm wrong and we will see some investment in key areas, but the nagging doubt that it'll be a repeat of last summer won't go away.

Matthew Hoppe is not a ghost, and unless he moves on in the next window, will still be in the squad for next season - maybe?

Partyl recruitment ie not getting a third striker, going into the first x games without a single LB on the books. Largely down to injuries though, in a 46 game season, our planned first XI players will have got following league starts:

.......................Dieng(35)
Smith(4).......Fry(28)......Lenihan(8)....Engel(28)
..................Hackney(20)......O'Brien(18)
Forss(12).........Rogers(14-then Sold)........McGree(14)
.............................Lath(23)

In fact 8 of those are still out, as are some of their first choice deputies. Injuries have absolutely scuppered us more than anything. In a normal season you'd get 35 games on average out of your first XI players, we are collectively 160 down on that, if I ignore Rogers. If we got that 160 extra matches out of our first team players, then I'm pretty confident we would have at least another 9 points and be in the play offs.

The FFP situation clearly is good, we have to wait and see if any players want out, or if stupid offers come in.

I'm sure we'll sell someone.
We only sold 2 last Summer; I don't think too many were upset with Bola going.
That leaves Chuba. Given the contract situation, I still think it was the right thing to do. If a decent offer comes in for McGree, I'd do the same this year. I'd prefer him to sign a new contract, but if he doesn't, well, no one is indispensable.

As much as that would be good money I’d be a bit concerned if we let them all go. Even if we brought in proven quality to replace them. I think we’ve shown this season that it takes time for players to gel. Last thing we want is to give the rest of the league another 7 game head start because we have 8 new players in the starting XI.
