My mam and dad split up, we had to move house and my dad was jailed right in the middle of my GCSE's

Totally messed me up and it was only through luck I managed to go to college and then subsequently onto Uni.

I feel for these girls.

'Ark Walworth Academy principal Jessica West said the school had been "more than happy to provide them with an education on a temporary basis".
"What is difficult is to see them move from a situation that was precarious, that we did everything we could to try and shore up for them, to another situation that isn't permanent and is just as precarious," she added.'

Fat Cat -

If you struggle to understand empathy - Hewie has articulated it beautifully.

People without empathy would conclude - ‘I went to college and onto Uni……. so they can just crack on too.

Not sure about anyone else, but I've never had a breakdown of where my tax goes. It could be going to asylum seekers, an LGBTQ+ improv theatre group, a cancer ward or some non-doms offshore investment fund. Frankly, of the aforementioned options I'd only be ***ed off if it was the last one.
I'll wager that there is far more to the story in the op than is being reported and if you are being triggered by it then that's score one for whoever decided to target the particular demographic that loves a good old whinge about 'ungrateful foreigners'.

As mentioned we will be providing legal aid to fund this. And when you say in the wrong - - weve given them refuge - everything after that is a bonus!
Who said / where does it say, they are getting 'legal aid'?

In fact the article says they are assisted by the Public Law Project which is a charity organisation.

Youve got this wrong from every perceivable angle.

Although there are times when FatCat can be a relatively easy-going bloke who talks well about boxing and the Boro etc. Every once in a while he can't help himself trotting out such odious right-wing clap-trap. The folk at GB News will be after him.

Sexpom I don’t know why you feel the need to call everyone names. You have a point of view so do I. Didn’t you get sidelined for that before.
His mask is slipping that's for sure.

As for the story in the original post, I'm sure the authorities will come and agreement will be met that suits all parties. This story is just another distraction technique from a media infested with wrong UN's everywhere you turn.

As for the comment that said we were instrumental in causing the scenario that they needed to seek refuge here, I find that incorrect and laughable really. What did that poster expect the Americans to do after 9/11? Sit back and take it? That was absolutely not going to happen. As for the UK joining in with the 'fight against terror' we are an ally of America. Oh and we weren't the only country that joined the Americans in trying to eradicate the Taliban but that doesn't suit the narrative does it?

It's an idea for a future government that's for sure. The blood bank tells me where my donated blood is going.
Not looking for anything malicious, I'd find it really interesting.

These are some of those Afghans who saved many British lives by risking their own on the front line. They risked capture, torture and death. Effectively they became "marked men" for serving Britain and supporting our armed forces. Our country treats these people like lepers. Others are welcomed with open arms by the Foreign Office. Why? We have a duty to provide these people with security and the knowledge that they and their families will be safe. They were prepared to risk death on our behalf and we owe them more than a debt of gratitude.

Not ONE refugee accepted via Afghan Resettlement Scheme in past twelve months

Not one person has been accepted and evacuated from Afghanistan under the Home Office’s Afghan citizens’ resettlement scheme (ACRS), launched in January, prompting claims that ministers are showing a “toxic combination of incompetence and indifference”. The scheme was intended to help Afghans who worked for, or were affiliated with, the British government – including its embassy staff and British Council teachers – and all of whom face severe harm at the hands of the Taliban.

The Home Office insisted that 6,300 Afghans had been brought to safety under the ACRS, but the Observer and Lighthouse Reports understand that none of these individuals have been accepted and relocated since January 2022, when the scheme was launched.

Afghan interpreter who worked with British army refused UK asylum

Aslam Yousaf Zai claims he has been targeted by Taliban, but Home Office says it does not believe he would be in danger if he returns to Afghanistan

An Afghan interpreter who says his work helped save the lives of many British soldiers and who claims he has been targeted by the Taliban has been refused asylum in the UK. Aslam Yousaf Zai said he fled his home in Kabul after Taliban extremists singled him out for working with the British army and said they would kill him and harm his family. “I came here [because] I work with the British, they know my problem better than others,” Zai said. “Then I come here, for one year there has been nothing. Then after one year they give me interview at Home Office and in 16 days they refuse my asylum.”

The Home Office has accepted Zai worked with British troops but has said it does not believe he would be in danger in his home country and has told him to go back. [?!!]

The letter outlining the reasons for his refusal said he had failed to demonstrate that the Taliban really knew that he was an interpreter for the British army.

[Even having served with the British Army risking their lives on the front line.....] 'They will hang me': Afghan interpreters blocked by UK seek appeal

"He says he was told to prepare for a flight out of the country within two weeks. He sold most of his possessions, and prepared to quit his job.
But on 11 August, as the Taliban closed in on the capital, he received a letter telling him his visa application had been refused on "national security" grounds with no right of appeal.
Abdul, a UN employee who also worked for the British embassy and for the Afghan government after leaving the army, was shocked by the decision. "I have worked with the British embassy. And the UN has zero tolerance for misconduct," he says. A UN spokesperson confirmed to the BBC he had passed background checks for his work there as recently as 2019. "I have never engaged in any criminal acts," Abdul says. "But I have worked shoulder to shoulder with British soldiers."

While serving with British troops in Helmand Province, a commanding officer praised Abdul's "loyalty, trustworthiness and complete professionalism" in a service certificate.

British Army Employed - Afghan interpreter brands UK decision to block wife’s asylum ‘betrayal’

Former British Army Officer Peter Gordon-Finlayson, who served with Husseinkhel in Helmand, told The Independent: “Hafiz served with British troops on consecutive Herrick campaigns, keeping him away from his family for years. He was an integral and crucial member of the team.

“Following the death of several of his family members, his wife is one of the few pillars of support he has left. To deny them the ability to be together seems particularly cruel on the UK’s part and is having a noticeable impact on his mental health.”

Afghan who risked life for UK: ‘They are sending me to get killed’

Things used to be so different for Bari, whose life changed 10 years ago when he applied to become an interpreter for the British Armed Forces in Kabul. “I was really excited to help because the military wanted to bring peace and security to my country,” he explains. “It was my duty to help as there was no peace.”

As part of his role, Bari helped to defuse tensions between British forces and locals in the areas around the Afghan capital. Bari recalls how he used to take precautions to prevent him from being identified, such as covering his face and wearing sunglasses. They were uncomfortable, though, so he sometimes risked leaving his face exposed. Eventually, Bari says, local sympathizers informed the Taliban militants he was working for the British, and his family started to receive threats for laboring alongside the “infidels.”All the same, officials refused to believe him. According to a UK government policy guidance issued this past April, Afghanistan is now safe to return to – despite the worsening security situation. On Monday, dozens were killed in a suicide attack in Kabul, the latest in a series of militant strikes that have taken place in the capital. ISIS claimed it carried out the attack.

Even Acknowledgement by gov. UK:
But the treatment of those who helped save British lives by risking their own is no surprise from this shower of ****

I find him remarkably frustrating and the more time passes the more frustrating he becomes. It is exactly as you say, he sometimes posts very decent stuff on non political threads and yet when he posts political stuff it is so completely Tory biased and its almost like he gets a kick out of getting people riled with his ridiculous hard right posts.

On Christmas Day I sent him a private message because we'd had a few words on a thread the previous couple of days. I don't like bad feeling so privately messaged to hold out an olive branch and to wish him and his family a Merry Christmas and he didn't even acknowledge it with a 'like' or a quick return message.

Thanks. It’s really nothing to do with politics or Tories, I’m much simpler than that. I just read that article and was angry that taxpayers money is being used to sue the very people who have offered them refuge including a roof over their head and education. It feels like a kick in the teeth. Is their situation ideal ? Evidently not, it’s better than the one they have recently came from but I don’t argue that they shouldn’t want the best for themselves. I would be interested to see what discussions have been held what solutions offered prior to this litigation.

My old man always used to say don’t bite the hand that feeds you and I just think this applies here.

The bit that annoys me also is the lawyers determination to get them back to london, we don’t know enough but i would be interested to see if they were given education in their new residence whether they will continue the fight to be in london. As mentioned if you are given support I don’t think you should then dictate or challenge how/where that support is given.

We have many issues as a country, we have an unprecedented immigration issue, we don’t have enough houses available for everybody so to start dictating what you must have feels wrong to me. As mentioned I’m sure some nurses would love a place in london but likely can’t afford it!

We can and will blame the government of the day but I’m sure some of these problems will be around whoever is in charge.

Anyway it does seem that I have upset a few people so I can only apologise for that.

Re your Christmas message I did get that and it was much appreciated, I’m a bit behind so will get you a reply out as soon as I can.

Tories have this odd thing at the moment don't they: it's becoming clear just how nasty, evil and mean the party they support is. Yet instead of doing, what I assume, would be the decent thing and going "oh this is a bit much" they double down in their defence. Fatty here is a great example. The government are going hard on their anti asylum seeker pogrom. A rational mind would probably be able to see that. But actually falling for it and repeating the hatred is a bit worrying

Oh look, here’s Randy on the wrong side of every moral argument 🙄

No They always were

I hate all this faux shock and surprise at how nasty the tories now are as though it’s out of character for them.

No they ALWAYS WERE where is the surprise

from thatcher shafting they north and creating an unemployment under class

to major closing the mines to put pit towns into The sort of poverty not seen since dickens.

To Cameron and his austerity that created food banks as public services were decimated and the disabled all but thrown to the wolves

To bojo and his record death toll of covid incompetence and ignorance ego and avarice.

So I’ll ask again just what is it that surprises you about the nasty party.

Oh look, here’s Randy on the wrong side of every moral argument 🙄
What wrong side? You, amongst others have given the media and it's powers that be exactly what they want.

The kids in the article will be allowed to continue their education where they see fit.
