Hypothetical - Would you sell Chuba ....

Says it all when we have a player score 29 league goals in 38 games, whilst playing brilliantly, and winning Championship Player of the Season, and there are still fans saying he's actually ****.

Beggars belief.

To be fair, he has been ***** most of his career. Last season was the one season he hasn’t been.

He scored 21 goals in 88 games for them. I don’t know the PAOK fans like you do, but that’s still not an incredible return.

In terms of pure numbers, probably not.

But they won't tell you everything.

For instance, Akpom only got 2 assists for us last season but that doesn't reflect the fact he was integral to so many of the attacks we made.

I remember being sceptical when we signed him because of the numbers, but a PAOK fan had been singing his praises and saying how good he was.
Obviously it didn't look that way under Warnock, but that was as much down to Warnock and his tactics as it was Akpom.
All hindsight on my part, of course, I thought he was useless at the time.

He has never been played in the position he plays in now at senior level. He has never had carrick as his manager. I think I'll take a gamble on him for another season after 30 plus years without a 20 goal a season striker. Let's face it, if he goes for nothing at the end of the season that's probably exactly what we were expecting for him at the beginning of last season. No Brainer for me. Keep him, regardless of his contract situation.

Fair enough, I’m still of the opinion that a striker should score goals and that’s what I judge them by. But he didn’t really play as a striker last season did he? Dropped back and had the season of his life.

He deserves a chance at the premier league if a club makes an offer acceptable ie £15m +
If we don’t get that offer and he won’t sign a new contract it gets ugly .
Top man and player , but something has to give and soon .
If a club offers players that would improve us as a squad and are within our salary band , do a swap deal .

Last season was the first time he had played in a withdrawn role and he was absolutely immense. Held off players, created space, perfectly timed runs and scored tap ins as well as worldies. He is definitely worth £15m in my eyes. The problem will be which prem team plays with a player in such a role As that seems to get the best out of him. I cant really think of one. That is why I really hope we can sell that to him and tie him down to an extension.

The correct answer is yes given Archers age, future resale value and the fact he’s unbelievable.

But, the amount of disrespect shown towards Akpom on this thread is shocking, he scored 29 goals for us last playing in a withdrawn position and he was outstanding nearly every time he pulled the shirt on. His game was so much more about goals too, the way he would start attacks with his body always on the half turn when receiving the ball and he would spray it out to Giles and then we were away to create a chance and normally it was Akpom who scored his goals like that. It’s the best comeback story from a Boro player I can remember, it was astonishing. He has the bit between his teeth now and wherever he plays his football next season I’m sure we will see an Akpom on top form, 15 goals and over 6 assists would still be excellent numbers given what else he contributes.

I would love Akpom to sign a new contract, and I feel that’s a lot more realistic than buying Archer as much as I would love to do that to.

I dont actually think there has been any disrespect for Akpom on the thread - I would say he is universally liked by the fans.

There is no guarantee in football especially the championship - his career suggests he may struggle to reach those figures again, many other players have had a purple patch in the championship and never hit the same heights again. I obviously hope he doesnt. However having said that who is to say Forss doesnt go on to have a 'freak' season, and bag 20 goals? So unpredictable this league.

Although Akpom isn't old, his age in comparison to Archer is a significant factor, and the fact he is currently close to the end of a contract.

These things have to be taken into consideration - andddddddddd its a hypothetical question remember, but the question is weighing him up directly against Archer, and not "do you think Akpom is 5hit and a bit of cnut?".

Finally -its ok to disagree folks!

Completely agree with this by the way (y)

"I would cash in on him before other teams realise how ***** he usually is."

If that's not disrespect, I don't know what is.

Playing Devils Advocate, before last season how would you have described him?

You might not have used *****, but I imagine the sentiment would have been very similar.

"I would cash in on him before other teams realise how ***** he usually is"

Its just a strongly phrased way of saying the rest of his career is nothing to write home about - which is the harsh truth.

Definitely wouldn't sell if we could get him to sign a contract but, alas, as I've said on other threads, think the lure of the Premiership (and its money) is just too great. You have to remember for players as well there's the ever-present fear of major injury. It's a short career and you feel you need to take the money/big chance when it's there - because one bad tackle it's gone.

People need to get over Archer and Ramsey also: they're not coming back. If they go on loan again, it will be to a Prem club. They did too well last season

I fear you are right with Archer, I hold out some realistic hope with Ramsey.

Archer is doing us no favours for the u21's at the minute either, bagged another last night.

Get out of the fcuking shop window you kn0bhead 👀
