Hungarian GP

If rules are rules, in his interview with Sky after the race Ocon definitely says he was asked by his team what he thought on the formation lap and said he thought it was drying up and should change tyres. They told him to box. Then we are told Mercedes couldn't tell Lewis to box as it's against the rules.
You have to apply them all or none (although I would hate them to take Ocons win away)

Disgusting decision by the FIA. Sorry but they need to read the room a lot more. They are more concerned with not upsetting the 'big boys'.

Just finished watching extended highlights just now, Alpine easily the team of the day, Alonso is an absolute beast still, pleased for Ocon, he's almost become the forgotten man when it comes to the next Mercedes driver, Toto loves him. Vettel leaving Ferrari for Aston Martin has proven to be a great move for him, not as much pressure put on his shoulders and you can see he's got the fire back and wanting podium finishes. Mega happy for Russell getting those points for Williams, easily the most improved team this season and it's not even a close contest.

Mazepin is a rank amateur who should be nowhere near a formula 1 car. He's going to seriously injure a driver/pit crew/steward sooner rather than later with his erratic driving and seemingly oblivious concern for the rules.
It’s a rule that has been around for years, and the consequences have always been the same, nothing to do with not upsetting the big boys as much as I still think it’s complete rubbish.
Still very unfortunate for seb, if any driver deserved a podium it’s him.
Wish the FIA would review these sporting regs further, no one wants to see a result decided 6 hours after the race has finished, great way to put fans off the sport.

I know. It's the inconsistency that's annoying.

Torpedo 6 cars out of the points, 5 place grid penalty. Use too much fuel, disqualified. To prevent fuel tampering? Why does it matter? Let teams explore the limits of technology.

Bit of a stretch that doncha think, I mean it could be any virus so why pick Covid (long or otherwise?)
Guy has been racing, had a pretty eventful one so lots of tension, possibly more sweaty hence additional dehydration.

Not having a go at him but seems a strange thing to announce.
Because he had Covud, and he's been struggling with his health since then. So it's a reasonable assumption.

Vettel decision was harsh. Rules are rules but can't come allowances be made for the wet start, massive crash and subsequent lengthy race?

Interesting that Russel got his first Williams points today. I thought that was his worst weekend. Failed to clear Q3 and was outdriven by Latife. Strange it was points wis this most sucessful.

Do you not think Mazepin has settled down? Entirely faultless today, someone drove into him and broke his car. How can he be attacked for that?

How is that inconsistent? it's 2 entirely different circumstances. It makes no sense at all to compare them. Even if you did, you'd be even more livid if Bottas was DQed from a race he didn't finish and had no further penalties.

No I don't think he's settled down at all. Everyone knows he's there because of the money he brings to the team, not talent. There are far far better drivers in the midfield of F2.

Penalties need to be consistent.
If your Lando or Leclerc, knowing Bottas has got a 5 place grid penalty for the next race at a speed heavy Spa won't fill them with justice served as the Mercs will likely breeze past them after La Rouge.

He was being interview last week and he explained how the Haas was set up for Schumacher and not him and it's taken him a while to get them to set his car up the way he want's. Also I don't know who he was being attacked by you this weekend. He literally did one lap and then got sideswiped in the pits.

What do you mean by "penalties need to be consistent though? When was the last time a car took 2 other cars out and the driver admitted his fault? I can't remember it happening for a while? What are you expecting?

Why did you bring the Vettel issue into it? That was an entirely separate penalty for a technical infringement. Not a racing incident.

I agree penalties need to be consistent but I don't know what inconsistency has been applied here?

Also, you are stating that it's not a big penalty because Bottas has a fast car. It sound like you are calling for penalties to be inconsistent? Yet you mention the speed of Bottas car. surely if you want consistency whatever the car, the penalty should be the same?

Also, not to belabour the Point. Stroll got the same penalty for doing the same thing yesterday. So: Consistency.

The fuel rules are there to stop cheating.

1ltr was picked as a base required for ease of extraction and is a simple round number, all teams know this and should be racing with the knowledge that 1ltr = empty.

Vettel therefore ran out of fuel.

True. The rules are the rules. I feel sad for Seb though he drove so well. It’s crazy that in the ultra high end world of f1 they need so much fuel left in the tanks though. Pretty much any chemical analysis could be done on about 5mL of fuel. There no real need to expect that much in the tank

I agree with Randy, having 0.7l missing out of your tank feels heavy to be dq’d when someone has taken out 5 cars and caused millions in damage gets a 5 place grid penalty

the rules have been applied correctly, but they feel out of kilter

Bottas took out 2 cars.
They are entirely different situations for two infringements that couldn’t be more different. To compare them and complain about inconsistency just has no logic

How much they need to analyse isn't the only point of the requirement though.

Fuel is no different to any other limits of the car.

You need 1 litre to perform full gasoline testing usually as I presume that’s why it’s taken. The two referee octane CFR engine tests use 400ml each.
