Huddersfield away - not a great experience

Been to many relatively close away days with big allocations and a flat atmosphere. Sometimes the best atmosphere is where you have a following between 1000-1800, Luton will be a cracker.

Many of them too drunk and/or coked up.

It’s not about supporting the team on these local outings, it’s about “the sesh”.
some picture you're painting.. surely the atmosphere would have been wild if there was al these folks 'on the sesh' drunk and/or coked up. there were lot of folks there expecting an atmosphere and expecting a massive result.. and it didn't come. plenty of folks were desperate for tickets.. who's gonna turn down £100 of a part timer? money's tight.

it was just a flat atmosphere

Its about both really. Few beers before the game watch the 12:30 TV game in a pub then off to ground to cheer the team on in the hope of a Boro win. Don't see what is wrong with that.

So it appears that even those benefitting from the priority points system acknowledge the system is being abused then?

Some odd comments regarding the trains on Saturday. Granted, my train was from Hull, but it stopped at Leeds (where a fair few Boro fans got on) and then on to Huddersfield. Same on the return journey.

Its a problem with the system as it but on the whole I think the points system is the best we can hope for. However there should be a way to move up the ladder so to speak from SC holder, to Chairman's drink, to Gold Card member. One of the main issues for me is the kids. Spoke someone who took his grandson to Huddersfield but there is no way the 11 year old can get enough points to get a ticket (even though they have a SC) so only way they could take him was to use someone's SC who wasn't going. There was quite a few kids there on Saturday so suppose that's how many got round it.
My lad is 10, and managed to get a ticket based on his points, I had a very anxious wait to try and get the tickets though.

I was speaking to a boy where it was his 2nd ever away game, there is no way he could have got a ticket without playing the system. That could have almost prevented me and my lad going.

Humpty it was abused widely when we had the system you advocate using gold season cards and then ordinary season cards.
But that surely wouldn't mean you would advise scrapping any preference and just go for everyone in the draw season card holder or not.
Some people find a way to get to the closer games - it won't be the same situation with Bristol City next Monday.

Agree, there is nothing wrong about forking out for an event and making it part of of a bigger day. I'm going to do exactly the same for Bristol City down here I'm not just going to turn up 3 hours before the game and then drink a few pints and go home. I'm going to be there early doors, do something around the quayside, watch early quick offs and then get the 3 o clock ko's before staggering into AG. I suggest the same to any Boro fans driving south, get to Bristol early, it will be kicking on a bank holiday.

The atmosphere can be better when there is a cross range of fans, but a good core of Boro fans aged 16 -25.

Gold card holders are going to be predominately over 50s now.

There were no direct trains to hudds from Newcastle/Darlington. Trust me, I tried to find them!

The difference being that this creates more of a closed shop. At least when it was abused under red/white book season tickets more people had the chance to apply for tickets and less people were affected by the abuse of the system. I don't think that's an unfair comment to make Rob.

I think the whole priority system is a very difficult one to get right.

Under the old scheme I know people who had been to every away game in Pulis play off season but missed out on Villa Away tickets for the second leg. That didn’t feel right and wasn’t right at the time.

The current system is abused. Certainly at this time of season, if you aren’t in the top brackets you have very little chance for the high demand games. Likewise, even those with higher points who can’t attend will offer their tickets to others to gain the points. Not everyone, but I know a good chunk of people who do.

I used to go to around 70% of away games but circumstances have got in the way which means I’ve not been able to attend as many in the last few seasons (Started a family / reduced income due to missus on Mat leave etc.). So I’ve just basically had our ST’s and attended 2-3 away games a season.

However, those are my issues so if others have been attending more than me and have more points then I think that’s fair enough.

You will always get an element of abuse in the system but that’ll happen with any system. It does make it harder to build up points unless you go to the lower demand away games to start building those points up. Those are often further away and will cost a bit more for transport / accommodation etc. so not an option for me at the moment.

Overall though, it does prioritise those who attend most away games, so it’s better than the system we had before - albeit, I’ll lose out personally at times but I’ll take that on the chin.

I don’t know what the club can do about the abusers, as you do end up with an exclusive club. I have benefited myself from that though by picking up occasional spare from mates (which maybe makes me part of the problem too!). I don’t see many better options on the table though.

I wonder if a cap on the number of points you can have would help. So for arguments sake 200. That way more people get to reach the top bar.

There are probably other ways of making it better. I do feel for those that cannot get to over 12 away games a season as that seems to be the minimum needed to reach the top end of points.

Every system has its issues - loads of premiership clubs are cancelling season tickets due to be mass bought by touts.

Football is just too popular.
