Huddersfield away - not a great experience

I have noticed fans seating/standing where they like at quite a few games. as said it could be due to higher demand for tickets will away sell outs now common.

I think it's due to people not wanting to miss out on the high demand games, so they buy their ticket in the first available window and their mates/family buy them in later windows which means they're allocated seats in different areas. So they just stand together once they get there.

Other than people stop being inconsiderate of others, only way I can see to prevent this is unallocated seating or you apply for your group in a ballot like some other clubs do.

Or the club issuing warnings and bans from purchasing for causing this situation (providing they can be identified of course), although i dare say they’ll say you need to see the home teams stewards to try to resolve first.

I was on the 10:17 train from Darlington to Huddersfield. Unfortunately it decided not to stop at Huddersfield and after its Dewsbury stop went straight on to Manchester. So I had to get off at Dewsbury and get a taxi into Huddersfield. It was the same situation going back as well.

Then there is the concourse....
When is a concourse not a concourse?
When it is outside.
Thank heavens it didn't rain.

How a relative new and modern stadium can have facilities like this is mind boggling.
Queueing up at half time for a drink was an experience and not a particularly pleasant one.

Then there was the teams performance..... :censored:

UTB
I was in the Huddersfield end and I have to say their facilities, concourse and food/bar were very good. Was served within 5 minutes. Amstel, Huddersfield's own ale on tap, strongbow dark fruits, clean toilets, warm concourse, plenty of TVs at a good height.

Only done 1 away game this season, Norwich, it was a brilliant day, great atmosphere and an away end full of genuine fans. As many have suggested the longer journey tends to put off the non football lads just out on a sesh. Witnessed some absolute idiots on the shorter away trips over the years,
..but this game was sold out to the regulars before it got to the "day trippers" wasn't it?

Seen a couple of Boro fans moaning on twitter about noticing a number of fans who weren't 'regulars' at away games. I mean, is it really that noticeable in a crowd of 2000+ or are they just being a bit picky?

Seen it regularly over the years with West Yorkshire police sadly. Was coming down m62 towards hudds after their game against Coventry- they slowed whole motorway going at 70mph to 20 to let the coaches out and did the same all the way to the M1 junction at Wakefield. Sat in hudds end they weren’t bothered about coins being thrown or other stuff going on where I’ve seen people thrown out for far less. Lived in hudds for almost 20 years before moving, but was ashamed at some of the behaviour in the home end with hudds fans- some fans I’ve been to Wembley with in the past.

Don't agree - you get far more demand for games that are closer to hand especially for those wanting a "social" day out. They will organise buses and mini buses and make a full day of it. They get tickets off mates - not for the points but for the pints.
Also, wherever we go people from the surrounding area do their best to get tickets off Boro fans - hence you had a lot of West Yorkshire accented Boro fans on Saturday and they are particularly prominent in directing chanting etc to their Huddersfield neighbours - it happens everywhere, even in south Wales we have fans that manage to get some tickets.
There were Boro stewards there on Saturday. We try to organise this for as many games as possible - if you have problems they are a very good first point of contact. They can usually sort issue out more quickly and amicably I find.
So, it is pints and not points that makes Boro fans seek out others season tickets for local games.

Unfortunately, it is one of the prices of having a points system, it can make a few people become ‘entitled’ and ‘more worthy’
Would you not get that if it was all gold card holders with away tickets?
You would have people saying those people weren't gold card holders.

I didn’t say they did it for the points though rob, it has a knock on effect however, as, by using non attending boro fans SC tickets, it builds up their points totals of these non attending members and continues to allow the non members to keep going to the well allowing them an advantage over casual SC holders who like me can only get to a smaller number of away games. At the end of the season any priority games, some non travellers may have significant points without attending and can if they so wished use their points accrued by others use to their advantage if they so wish. Personally, I view anyone using the SC for a purpose unintended by the club and can ultimately work against legitimate SC holders as a season goes on. It can and does put some people at an unfair advantage as well as the rest at a potential disadvantage.

Imagine it if we ever got another Eindhoven, some non SC holders may use points accrued on an SC card where the holder has never been to an away game or at such an event the SC holder has points accrued by others use and so can attend presitige games if they so wish over someone that may have been legitimately to a few games only.

How is that fair? It is potential abuse of the system however you look at it and is one reason why an SC card holder may get a ticket for a friend or family member. It is a win win for all but the intended scheme and has the capability to disadvantage genuine SC holders in limited games. Wembley wont be an issue, but key away games will be come the bigger end of season games.

I have no issue with a system if it is used correctly and fair to all but when it can be abused so easily, thats another matter.

Like I said I have no problem rewarding loyalty if the scheme were fair, my post above shows examples of how the current scheme is open to abuse, it can and sometimes does benefit a non SC holder and the same SC holder, a win win for them, less so the casual away travelling SC holder.

Its a problem with the system as it but on the whole I think the points system is the best we can hope for. However there should be a way to move up the ladder so to speak from SC holder, to Chairman's drink, to Gold Card member. One of the main issues for me is the kids. Spoke someone who took his grandson to Huddersfield but there is no way the 11 year old can get enough points to get a ticket (even though they have a SC) so only way they could take him was to use someone's SC who wasn't going. There was quite a few kids there on Saturday so suppose that's how many got round it.

Is it “for a purpose unintended by the club” though? Not only does the club not seek to prevent it, it actively facilitates it by giving the ability to allocate another’s points, allowing purchase of a ticket at another concession status etc.

In the end the main thing the club wants is a system that gives its own customers a perk so as to encourage repeat business, although it’s also a bonus that it simplifies what the club needs to do to avoid chaos when there’s high demand. The club doesn’t have any vested interest beyond that.

Such a flat atmosphere from our fans.. hard to pin point what it was really? Lots of the louder fans not being able to stand close together? Quite a high percentage of families and older supporters.. I'm guessing because of the high points threshold. We seemed very tired and hungover.

Agreed it was a little odd, I was anticipating a very upbeat away crowd.
Almost like the crowd sensed what was coming.
And some of our older supporters can make a lot of noise. Just saying.
