Huddersfield away - not a great experience

I think the whole priority system is

I don’t know what the club can do about the abusers, as you do end up with an exclusive club. I have benefited myself from that though by picking up occasional spare from mates (which maybe makes me part of the problem too!). I don’t see many better options on the table though.
Other clubs such as Brighton have introduced a deterrent to abuse.
A number of away tickets have to be picked up from the away club by the ticket holder with photo Id.
A bit of inconvenience but should help.

I wonder if a cap on the number of points you can have would help. So for arguments sake 200. That way more people get to reach the top bar.

There are probably other ways of making it better. I do feel for those that cannot get to over 12 away games a season as that seems to be the minimum needed to reach the top end of points.

Every system has its issues - loads of premiership clubs are cancelling season tickets due to be mass bought by touts.

Football is just too popular.
I don't like this priority points system personally but I think if priority points are here to stay then there needs to be a number of measures similar to that above to ensure it's not a closed shop and to reduce the abuse that leads to people unfairly missing out.
Measures such as creating a cap on points. Removing gold card/chairman drink status. Collecting tickets in person from the away club with a photo ID. Revoking season tickets for abuse of the system.

I have a very low number of points but feel overall the system is fair, how it can be tweaked to stop the abuses I'm not sure. Do the club really want to get rid of season ticket holders who are source of revenue for the sake of away tickets where outside of cup matches they take no revenue from, from the club's point of view they might as well just put them on general sale to all. The situation we have at this moment isn't normal even for other promotion years, all our big ticket matches happend before Xmas when we were doing crap, if we had one or two of them in March or April then the clamour to get tickets would be less and we wouldn't have these issues..
Maybe the way going forward for some high demand away matches is an e-ticket generated to incorporate/attach a club ID membership, these can be randomly checked as people are entering the away section, and would hopefully deter people selling on tickets. Any people caught selling on would have their points cancelled for any away matches including cup finals.

Its about both really. Few beers before the game watch the 12:30 TV game in a pub then off to ground to cheer the team on in the hope of a Boro win. Don't see what is wrong with that.

I described something similar at Cardiff, so clearly what you described isn't a problem.

The problem is you have people getting on the drink at 10am when they get on the road and drinking through till kick-off. I'm also amazed at just how many of our seemingly young and healthy fans need a number two when at the match. Either Teesside is a irritable bowel syndrome hotspot or they're using the traps for other purposes.

I was at Blackburn and the queues were ridiculous to get something to eat. I went down during a break in play for an injury to get a pie to eat back at my seat. After battling through all the drunks stood in the walkway to get to the concourse and witnessing the handbags between two Boro fans at the bar I managed to get a pie. But looking around I couldn't believe how many people were in the concourse, just chatting amongst themselves with pints in their hands, with zero interest in the game that was taking place.

Now what people do when they attend the match is up to them. I'm not one of these people who cry when others leave early or anything like that. They pay their money and within reason it's down to them.

However when people ask why the big 4k local(ish) games are flat in terms of atmosphere, there's your answer.

When I go further distances - Cardiff, Millwall, QPR, Watford, etc I don't see the above anywhere near as much.

I'm for the club trying to tighten this up, the Brighton approach is to draconian for my personal preference.

Under their system you'd pay your £30 for a ticket and it's tough luck if you can't go due to illness, change in circumstances, etc.

If the club announced they were keeping waiting lists (especially for popular games) and you could then return tickets that would help as there would be less of an excuse for people to pass tickets on.

I feel it's part of our culture, when I started going to away matches in the 80s at Man City and Leeds, I went to the toilet in the 2nd half and saw a mounted police charge fans who refused to leave the area of the beer kiosk, so it's definitely in Teesiders mentality. Also I was reading the Huddersfield forum on Monday, and 1 or 2 posters said there was hell on during the match in their town, Boro fans who travelled without tickets and just sat in pubs during the games, which led to quite a lot of incidents. I have to be truthful I was thinking of doing the same, once the trains were put back on , I thought I could go up and chance a ticket or sit in a pub in Hudds somewhere, but commonsense won in the end.

Some odd comments regarding the trains on Saturday. Granted, my train was from Hull, but it stopped at Leeds (where a fair few Boro fans got on) and then on to Huddersfield. Same on the return journey.
No odd comments from me. I booked a train from Darlo to Huddersfield and it didn't stop at Huddersfield. No message, no warning, no nothing. Fortunately I worked out what was going on before I boarded. Yes, I could have gone through and/or changed at Leeds, but I specifically booked a (direct) train with no changes, or so I thought.

Pretty poor communication whichever way you look at it.

I must admit I didn't behave impeccably at the match and the police were very good with me. I lost my temper when some Huddersfield fans were giving it the usual paedo/what's it like chants and I just can't tolerate it. I apologised to the copper and explained my reasons and he asked me to point out the fan. I told him to just leave it, which I now regret.

The away games I go to are the further distances, so I haven't seen the negative behaviour described - At WBA its always a squash in the away concourse in the 30 minutes before kick off and it appeared some younger fans were probably on something. At Swansea there was still trouble with people going in others seats and the game was not a sell out. QPR is pretty awful in the concourse, because its so narrow, once it took me 20 minutes from the turnstile to seat without planning to stop. I am looking forward to Bristol City with a record number of Boro and there will be all types, Boro fans from the West Country, South Wales. Cotswolds, London, Teesside hardcore, Home counties. With the Spring sunshine out and an old friend back in the garden, I 'll get Boro fans warmed up with this fun song.

It’s not worth bothering with the local away games anymore, it really brings the scum out and just makes the day awful

And that’s why the police treat all of us like criminals at these games, because we have a huge amount behaving like criminals. Sadly the rest of us get caught up with it

The long trips always have a great crowd and it’s a far better day
