How soon before Dael is on his way if good offers come in?

I watched some of the Liverpool Everton game last night and it did cross my mind that Fry would not be embarrassed in the Liverpool team however he is not a "ball player" type of CB that is demanded of teams like Liverpool, City, or Arsenal, so those sides would probably not look at him, elsewhere in the top teams there doesn't appear to be many obvious slots for him. Everton or Spurs would be the ideal candidate teams for him I would think? Going mid table comes with the risk of ending up back in the Championship or forgotten in the ressies. His next move will be important for him that's for sure.

If we don't go up we shouldn't be selling for less than £30m covid or no covid and should be putting in a clause for a % of the sell on that will happen afterwards. Can see him going to Leicester.

A week or 2 ago people were saying we should be following the Brentford model.

If we are sincere about this, it means selling your best players, so maybe this is necessary to keep progressing.

I'm going to ask the question I always do when sell on clauses are discussed: how much are we prepared to knock off the up front price in order to agree one? £30 million up front, or 25 million and a 25% sell on clause? And is that 25% of a sell on fee, or 25% of the profit on him?

I remember when he was linked with Burnley and many of us, myself included wanted rid of him. Some people came on here who seemed to be in the know or possibly even know him personally and said he didn't want to go. The way it was worded wasn't just that he didn't want to go to Burnley either. I honestly think there's nowhere he would rather be.
Neil Warnock has said in interviews that Gibson doesn't want to sell the young players so I don't think we need to worry about losing him.

Maybe in 3 years time if we are still stuck down in this division, like with Gibson it may be decided its best for all parties for him to try his luck in the Premier League. Until then he'll be a Boro player.

No that’s not the Brentford model at all as fry is a youth product an alien concept at Brentford as they buy low and sell high only buy low again etc

As selling youth academy players is entirely different as you need to create them in the first place and nurture them which takes time money and let’s face it luck.

so nothing at all like the Brentford model

I can see mid table teams and newly promoted clubs looking at him seriously. It wont matter a jot what Neil thinks if Gibson wants to take the money, he will, you can’t blame him for doing so in this climate. If a big offer comes in he will be off with everyones blessing. I don’t see him interesting a really top club, although Leicester and West Ham as things stand, maybe. I could see him interesting Newcastle, Palace, Southampton or dirty Leeds as well as the promoted clubs, but he risks relegation at one or two of them, so needs to think carefully.

In todays markets I would think we should be looking to try to get £20M+ then add a sell on clause and an England cap clause in it too. If we stay in the league as I expect, then i guess it leaves a route for Wood to blossom.

Money talks and perhaps selling him will somehow close the gap on the lost revenues during covid-- sell for £30M although it's fair to say that would only amount to a spit in the ten gallon bucket in terms of lost revenues.

I'm pretty relaxed about it to be honest. We hold the cards, but if someone really wants him then they'll have to make it an offer too good to refuse. £30m might make a big difference next season given most championship clubs struggling more financially due to covid.

I'd far rather keep him mind obviously and even prem clubs are being a bit more cautious with their spending, so might not be too much of an issue anyway.

I'd like them to start talking about a new contract though. 2 years left at the end of this season.

I always knew he would come good, he struggled with the physicality of championship strikers to start with, but at 20 year old that would always be the case. He's now come good. I'm not prepared to write players off so early these days, players take time to mature, Bola being another great example.

Those that get on Tav's case for not scoring or assisting enough, need to think back to how much Fry has matured in two years, because Tav is 2 years younger. Spence and Coulson also.

Interesting take Muttley. If I may add that top PL teams also like their CB’s to chip in with a decent return of goals at set pieces. This is still a sticking point with Dael, not taking away his defensive qualities of course.

Good point, I think you do have to look at who "might" be looking at him and their expectations of what a CB can do and for sure in the PL it is no longer enough to be a "cleaner upper".

It feels like Tav has been around for years - we forget he is still only a young player. Fry too, hes still a young footballer, but approaching his prime....in a few years. (y)

I think that's a bit pedantic. Or are you saying we shouldn't have any youth products?

No I’m saying what Brentford do is easier to do than what we do. They have no youth policy instead preferring to buy ready made players instead.

therefore selling youth players is harder to replace using the same method than say the buy em Low sell em high approach of Brentford.

Hopefully he will be in the Premier League playing for us.
The team yesterday looked so strong and moved the ball so well that I think we really have a chance of going up .Then we can buy Ben from Burnley to play alongside him.
Fingers crossed .

He was very good yesterday and has been good for most of this season, certainly looks a better bet than grant hall. However it was only a year ago when people were saying he is worth £20 million etc when he was getting knocked off the ball by a gust of wind. It really is all or nothing in here!

just a point as well if he’s worth £30 million (which I think he is worth nowhere near) what would that make McNair and Dijksteel be worth given most (I believe from posts on here from the first half of the season) would say have had better seasons.

I've said before we've got a defence worth at least 60m+ which is crazy and testament to the job that Warnock has done.

£60m+?

So what crazy valuations are you putting on them then and based on what previous transfers? 🤔
Fry is worth £25m+ and if he’s worth that Mcnair is worth £15m. Bola and Dijksteel both worth £10m easily if you look at some of the garbage fullbacks in the Prem.
