How many times can a team overhit a pass in 90 minutes

Difficult to tell as I was only listening but unless the commentary was way off I would estimate 4 out of every 5 times. We couldn't pass water.

passing wasn't our issue, we made 649 passes to their 245. We passed them off the park.

The issue was not taking a risk to beat a man, not pushing the ball past the full back and whipping it in. Both wingbacks had absolute stinkers today, too scared to try and get a cross in.

It’s true we had more than twice as many passes but the problem was most of it was done by our defenders - Lenihan and Bola had over a hundred passes each, almost as much as the entire Reading team made ! They were more than happy to let us have the ball in our half and in midfield then they just closed us down in the final third till we either wasted it or they won it back. Forss hardly got a touch and McGree was anonymous, and therein lies the problem, our lack of a cutting edge in attack. We desperately need that extra bit of class up front.

500 of them will have been between lenihan, bola, McNair and howson around the centre circle

Hopefully the McGree at number 10 thing will be abandoned. It doesn't work, Forss was utterly isolated. McGree didn't get into the positions to support midfield build up play either. Our midfield 5 had over 250 passes also (about 50 each), what they didn't do is play any decent through balls, or try and whip a cross in, until the last 10 mins. They needed to ask questions of the Reading CBs, and didn't. Giles didn't try and take his man on once in the whole game, and Jones only started to in the last 10. Pointless playing wing backs who just play the ball backwards every single time.

I'd have hooked Jones and put Smith on after an hour.

Having attended said match. I don't think it was necessarily the missed passes.

It was more us probably setting a world record for square passes. Especially in the first half. It was just side to side then back side to side and repeat😔

Although loads of actually missed placed passes straight into touch etc.

It seems that for quite some time towards the end of last season and a good proportion of this, Jones is surviving on his previous fantastic form. The fact that as he is converted part time defender and can't tackle makes him a liability in conceding potential penalties too. If his minuses outway his plusses it is a big problem as Wilder wants to play this way. Right now Jones seems to have lost confidence to take on his marker. And as you say, if Giles had the same affliction on the same day then a Manager has to swallow his pride and make some very tough decisions. It sounds like he began to realise that AFTER the match.

Absolutely.

Chris Wilder made that point very strongly: saying that there was going to be a big shake-up and "we [Management Team] are going to have to talk" - take responsibility. Its been reasonably obvious that some players have been first on the team-sheet for a long while.
Wilder looked seething.
Let no one say that`s his fault alone.
No team goes out to loose.
Its glass half-full not half-empty.
Some of us fans need to tough it out - not just bleat.

But he’s got two assists and one goal already - that’s better than what Connelly did in half a season 😁

And others need to open their bloody eyes…..

I was at the game, some birthday treat :ROFLMAO:, I thought Jones had been told to immediately head back towards his own goal when ever he received the ball. He made no runs forward at all until the last 15 mins. In the first half, whenever Howson Paddy or Fry looked to play him in he retreated toward them. Whilst there was little point hitting a high ball centrally to Forss or McGree, a ball over the top to either wing back usually gets a you a throw in at the worst. we showed so little attacking ambition it was embarrassing.
