Agreed. Restricted then to occasional counter attacks while we had wave after wave of attacks.

Still room for improvement but a positive performance to build on.
 
Passing much much better through the midfield, with real purpose. Also creating chances through the middle for the first time all season, which is good to see! Early days, but I like how much change in style there has been in just a couple weeks under Carrick.
 
Better .. still too many side passes for the sake of them and a lack of urgency at times .. there were minutes on end where it just seemed like a friendly
 
Yes it certainly was a positive performance overall. Considering this is only Carricks third game in charge there is much reason for optimism
 
Played very well, deserved to win comfortably, their goalkeeper played out of his skin.

Our midfielders were all excellent today.

Possession is futile unless something results from it. Lots of sideways and backwards passing.
 
Was similar criticism under Karanka at times. "Too much backwards and sideways passing" despite losing like what? One game at home all season.

feels like a lot of fans just don't have the patience for it. Maybe an English thing? Ive played a lot of 5 a side over the years at a range of standards and the number of people who think passing it backwards is some sort of a crime is incredible. They'd seemingly rather get tackled or take on a ridiculous shot than play a simple ball to someone in acres of space if that person is stood behind them.

now of course sides can be guilty of overdoing it. If its all in your own half and defenders just passing the ball between themselves i agree its pointless.

But passing the ball backwards and sideways to try and move teams around to create opportunities, or where there's nothing else on so you recycle possession, is far from pointless. It is of course a balance. Sides won't always get it right. But I'd rather us look after the ball than see hopeful punts forward or dribbles down blind alleys.
 
Question, I wasn't at game and wondered if you think playing Muinz today could have been the difference between a point and all 3?

I would say not. He hasn’t really set the place alight. I think it is very telling that Crooks came on as CF rather than a specialist CF in Muniz.

No I think muniz makes the team far less dynamic and mobile. Forss played very well and was unlucky not too score but his running was key to our first half dominance. it was only the brilliance of their keeper that stopped it being a comfortable win
 
Bringing on Crooks was bizarre, I do think we could have won that game and having a midfielder who's not actually great in the air up front was a very odd decision from Carrick.

I can only assume that Hoppe is absolutely awful in training.

We didn't.
We were much better first half than second.
The substitution was ridiculous.

I get people are desperate for positives, but a poor Bristol City stopped us winning second half very easily.
Hackney and Howson played really well.
McGree and Jones were awful and Giles had another poor match.
Dress it up how you want but we are a point outside the drop zone.
There is a so much that needs improvement.

McGree was awful? Wow. Easily top 3 players today.
