How bad was music in the 90s

Off the top of my head-Sebadoh, The Wedding Present, The Cure, Nick Cave And the Bad Seeds, Pavement, Portishead, Ride, The Smashing Pumpkins, Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey, Beck, A Town called Quest, Rage against the Machine, The Flaming Lips, Belle and Sebastian, Modest Mouse, Vic Chesnutt….all released brilliant records in the 90s. That’s on top of many of the band’s already mentioned.
I think to say an entire decade of music was rubbish because you don’t like Oasis and their ilk, is a bit daft.

Loved 90s music. Had many a good night in the bars and clubs, especially the house scene in Empire.

My fave decades for music rated best to worst

70s
90s
60s
50s
80s

One of the best things about music in the 90s was that those little dingy clubs still existed. I'd go to gigs a couple of nights a week and saw some amazing bands. All those venues closed during the 00s.

There’s loads around here putting on sparsely attended gigs almost weekly. KuBar is a great venue.

Britpop 😆

Had a few people over midweek for some supper and a glass of something. There was some 90s playlist coming from somewhere, you forget how bad the music was. About the only thing everyone agreed upon 🤣
There was plenty of good stuff in the 90s, some great bands and albums. Sure there was some rubbish, but at least the rubbish had a bit of charm vs much of the bland MOR stuff now.
The term Britpop was just nonsense created by the media. Grouping the likes of Pulp, Suede, The Charlatans under that banner was totally unfair, they'd been developing long before "britpop"

I think you are the first person Ive ever heard say this. 90s was a great era, indy and house music made it the perfect decade.

I personally think the 80s was the best decade in music but then many of my favourite artists from that decade also released fantastic albums in the 90s. Depeche Mode's Violator being one of them.

Like other have said the 90’s was packed full of great music.

Not just guitar based either which seems to be what most think music is.

The 90’s had some brilliant dance music with a genuine underground youth culture with raves. Norton had one of the best venues in the North during those days.
