How’s it gone so wrong so quickly

Confidence is a mercurial factor too. Look how quickly it was salvaged when Carrick came through the door and flowed for months thereafter. And how it's ebbed away now and is seemingly so elusive.
Exactly this. People talk about how “good” the squad is etc.

This time last year the squad looked similarly rubbish on paper and we were in the bottom 3. We didn’t have Chuba Akpom the 29 goal Ajax striker, we had a bloke who’d been in the wilderness then notched 2 in a draw v Sheff Utd who was in the team because we didn’t buy any decent strikers in August.

It’s all about confidence and momentum. Changing managers often works but we do it regularly and nothing pays long term.

I’m not sure what your issue is with me but these snide posts are a terrible look. If you’re going to do it at least have the decency to tag me so I know to respond.

By all means FAO me and we can talk about our feelings of the football club.
Happy nothing is wrong it will all be ok sunshine and rainbow posts annoy people especially when we can all see it’s not ok.

It’s ok to be honest and admit that things aren’t ok at the mo as yes they may improve but there’s no guarantees and it just as easily get worse.

I really really hope it will but I’m not naive enough to realise that it might not.

We are in trouble

Of course it might not. We’re in a real pickle, no question. But the policy tends to be to sack the manager in October when it’s not and press the reset button, then wonder why it all happens again once we’re out of the woods.

The club has been in a rut for 15 years, we need to change our approach to it.

Well we are obviously seeing it differently, there is nothing wrong with that it’s all about opinions isn’t it.

Like I said 2 weeks ago I’ll start to panic half way In if nothing changes.

So if we lose the next three will you admit there’s an issue then or will it be more endless sunshine a rainbow platitudes. Because they are meaningless then.

Complacency and blind faith in football is dangerous.

I hope carrick and the boys are worried. As I’m sure they are.

At no stage have I said it is sunshine and rainbows, I just have a lot of faith that we can turn this around and develop as a team.

Recruitment has been the key problem for years. The obvious answers above are correct - we lost a lot of talent. What I think we may well be finding out now though is that the talent of our squad made Carrick look better than perhaps he really is.

We lost 45-50m worth of player and decided to replace them with 7m worth of punts.

The odd player will come good but generally you get what you pay for… and it shows.

It’s unfortunate Carrick has to carry the can for this new ‘model’ yet old dinosaurs have free reign to splurge 7m on Flint and 7m on Saville.
Exactly. I'm not sure Gibson etc are entirely honest when they appoint a new manager.

Said it for months on here. We needed to sort the defence out. The 2 left backs purchased are worse than Bola let alone Giles.

McNair not good enough
Fry Not good enough
Smith not good enough

The answer is really really really, really really obvious. We lost Chuba, Archer, Ramsay and replaced them with Lath, Silvera and Rodgers.
As said above, Coventry lost hamer and Gykores but bought well. And they look the part or decent
We look like a pile of trash.

It’s unbelievable really.

The problem lies with Gibson, Bauser and Scott. All incompetent at their job. Gibson had made a mess of Boro ever since we went up under Karanka. Financially, he cant compete and struggles to even do so in the championship.

We lost Akpom for peanuts, only Boro would sell their best goal scorer in 30 plus years for a terrible fee. Gykores went for a lot more and he was in the same situation as Akpom with a year left on his deal. We have a track record for selling our best players for poor fees.

We lost a number of key players last year and our replacements are terrible. Dieng is perhaps the only steady replacement.

Giles - Engel has looked awful. Time will tell with Bangura
Ramsey - Silvera? Obvious downgrade
Akpom - Rogers. I won’t even comment
Archer - Latte Lath. Not fit to lace his boots

Throw in Howson being that bit older, the defence not being improved despite the issues last year, right back issues and you have a recipe for disaster.

It amazes me we had no plan b for not getting promoted and losing those players as I’m certain Carrick came out and said we had a plan for all contingencies. Its clear we didn’t.

Let's face it last season we were basically a team built around one man who not only gave the best goal scoring performances i have seen in fifty years. He also was our out ball, out of defence plus our most effective midfielder and the annoying part is we practically gave him away because he was our only saleable asset. We are well and truly in the mire because teams have worked out how to play against us and we are just trying to play the same game with vastly inferior players who aren't as brave on the ball.

Bottom line is we’ve replaced every single first team player we lost this summer, with vastly inferior players.
Understandable in some cases, given the quality of Ramsey, Archer, Akpom. But nevertheles, that’s why we are looking a million miles away from where we were.
I agree with most of this, but please don't put Ramsey in the list - he payed about 300 minutes, and started 5 games

Exactly. I’m sure all genuine Boro fans would love nothing more than for Lath/Silvera/Rodgers to be gems that we’ve unearthed… however at this point unfortunately none of them look remotely close to even being good/decent level Championship players.

He played around 660 minutes, scored 5 goals and got 1 assist in 11 appearances for us. That’s a fantastic return in anyone’s book imo. Anyway, I get your point that he wasn’t with us for long but his contribution is most definitely missed now.
