Hoppe included in Boro 25 man squad

A fair bunch of that squad are either long term injured, out of the door, half out, or haven’t played more than a handful of games. Shambles.

Last season, I recall we started by not getting in a striker and were forced to start someone who until then had been in and out on loan and on the periphery of things at best. He didn't turn out too bad - maybe lightning can strike twice?

He has *literally* never started a game for us. I could well imagine that an odd-on is triggered by starting his first game. It would be a false economy not to start him if Carrick thinks he's good enough so you have to assume that Carrick thinks not only is he not good enough but that any team with him in would be weaker than almost any other option he has. Carrick has form for that. He had plenty of chances to play Muniz last season and despite warm words about him he absolutely refused. Don't really know why.

For all that Carrick is a supportive manager, if you don't impress him you get nowhere near the pitch. That's a good thing but it can be puzzling from the outside.

Given that Hoppe was a significant part of our budget when we bought him, he has to go down as the worst value for money buy in the Scott era.

Carrick saying we dont need a striker we can get goals from other players is he covering for the clubs lack of investment or just being stupid.
I think you might have misquoted him slightly there.

He was asked the question who did he think would step up and get the goals needed up front and he answered that it was everyone's responsibility to score goals and we needed to share them out across the team with all contributing. I took it as he was answering in that way to avoid naming one individual and putting them under undue pressure.
