HOOF 31 January 2021: 12 Day Quiz - DAY 13 -TIE BREAK RESULTS - Guess Erimus74's favourite Boro footballers

Erimus74 has kindly passed on some photos of his favourites to me. So I have now embedded a photo in each of the results posts.

Still around 40 minutes to submit an answer.

OK. Here are the results for day 9. First some words and a photo from Erimus74....

"There are a few No11's that I could have included in my favourite 11

David Armstrong with that incredible consecutive appearences of 356 league & Cup games, not to forget all the friendlies he played during that run, he never seemed to miss a game, whoever was the manager, week in, week out, Dave Armstrong was always the 1st name on the teamsheet
David Armstrong played 416 games, between 1972 & 1981, scoring 73 goals, in that number of games he was only named as a sub 3 times, quite amazing
He scored his 1st Boro goal away to Villa in October 1972, started his amazing run of consecutive appearences on the 24th March 1973 at home to Villa, he scored the goal v Oxford, that guaranteed promotion, 23rd March 1974, a day short of a year of consecutive appearences
Described as our little gem by big Jack he should have played many times for England, he would have at a more fashionable club
Unfortunately he eventually went to Southampton in 1981 for £600k, I've met him & had my photo taken & what a lovely man he is, with fond memories of his time at the Boro

Stuart Ripley was another favourite of mine, who can forget when he would terrorise the opposing full back pushing the ball past him & leaving him in his wake, in April 1988 he scored his one & only hat trick v Sheffield United on the way to scoring 30 goals in 295 games between, 1985, making his one & only appearence as sub at home to Oldham & his final appearence v Wolves in the final game of 1992 when winning promotion, a member of the Boro boys who shared the English school boys trophy in 1981

Sold to Blackburn after we gained promotion in 92 to the 1st ever PL, where he won the PL title with Blackburn

John Hendrie played 192 games for the Boro, scoring 44 goals, remember his solo game at home to Millwall October 1991 when he ran the full length of the pitch to score the winning goal at the holgate end, an excellent signing by Colin Todd, Boro fans remembered him from the 2nd division days when he tortured us when playing for Bradford City

Special mention to the following players who wore the No11 shirt

Alan Comfort, signed from Orient in the summer of 1990, only played 18 league & games for the Boro, scoring 3 goals in season 1990, until his fateful injury at Newcastle
Alan Comfort was a silky winger who could have been a big hit at the Boro

Brian Laws signed from Huddersfield by the late, great Willie Maddren for £35k he played 126 games scoring 14 goals between ‪1984-87‬
Dave Thomas signed by Bobby Murdoch in 1982 played 13 games, scoring one goal

Ravanelli 1st ever hattrick at the Riverside & on his debut, the only Boro player to score at Wembley, costing the Boro £7m for his signature

But Davey 'Spike' Armstrong is the one for me".

Almost another clean sweep today. Still 3 people leading the pack.

I think this one will sort the men from the boys. I feel that I might need a few hours to work out my answer. As today there is a double description to deal with.....

Left sided attacking midfielder or modern number 10 behind centre forward (10). As usual, the description is more important than the number. Plus it is Erimus74's favourite player for this position.

I'm afraid it can only be Juninho here. I still remember my disbelief when I heard we were in for him, which was only beaten by the disbelief when we signed him and tte excitement when I saw him play.

Armstrong wearing a iconic Boro shirt

I am not so sure. He went for Heine Otto for number 8 when I picked Juninho in that position. Also, I think he said somewhere in the past that for 3 weeks Emerson was a better player than Juninho (and anyone else). So maybe he thinks others might be as well.

I am going to ponder this one for a while I think.

This is a lot tougher than many will think, you could throw Alan Foggon, Micky Burns, John Hendrie, Merson, Marco Branca amongst others into that role, as well as Juninho, food for thought indeed. My personal favourite is Juninho, but Merson was special as were all the others. I will go with Juninho as you can not have him not in the team. Surely that would be unthinkable
Emerson at no10....... never in a month of sundays that was never his role

He may not fit the picture exactly. However I am going to go for someone different. As I think Erimus74 might like him.

The other little fella - Stan Cummins.

He has always been one of my favourites. Also, I have just found out that he was born exactly 1 month after me.

Too many good ones over the years. Noel Whelan anyone. Also Boksic.

Have to go with tlf, Juninho.

Juninho

I don't think that he will ignore both the excitement his signing made or that we then found out he was as good as the expectation led us to think. I know everytime he came back I got excited anyway.
